Review of the Shark PowerDetect Clean & Empty Cordless Pet Vacuum in the UAE

Introduction

The Shark brand has built a strong reputation in the home cleaning industry by focusing on innovation, convenience, and powerful performance. The company was founded in 1995 under Euro-Pro Operating LLC and later expanded globally through its parent company, SharkNinja. Over the years, Shark has introduced several breakthrough products that have challenged traditional vacuum cleaner brands with smarter, more practical designs.

Shark entered the cordless vacuum segment with models that focused on flexibility, strong suction, and ease of use. Features such as Flexology, Anti Hair Wrap technology, and DuoClean floorheads helped the brand gain popularity among homeowners and pet owners. As cleaning needs evolved, Shark continued improving its cordless lineup with intelligent sensors and automated maintenance features.

The latest addition to this journey is the Shark PowerDetect Clean & Empty. It combines powerful cordless cleaning with intelligent floor detection, adaptive suction control, and an Auto-Empty charging base. The result is a vacuum cleaner designed to reduce effort while maintaining strong cleaning performance throughout the home.

Design & Build Quality

The Shark PowerDetect Clean & Empty immediately stands out with its premium matte mocha grey finish, accented by subtle purple highlights and brass detailing. The design feels modern and sophisticated, making it look more like a premium home appliance than a traditional vacuum cleaner.

At 3.71kg, it is not the lightest cordless vacuum available. However, the weight distribution feels balanced during operation. The handle offers a comfortable grip and the controls remain easily accessible while cleaning. The vacuum also features Shark’s Flexology wand, which bends to reach under furniture without requiring users to kneel.

Four additional accessories

It comes with 4 additional accessories: DuoClean Detect Floorhead, Motorised Pet Tool, Multi-Surface Tool, and Duster Crevice Tool. There is an additional base also includes storage slots for two accessories, helping keep frequently used tools organised.

The included Auto-Empty Base serves two functions. It charges the vacuum and automatically empties the dustbin after every cleaning session. This reduces direct contact with dust and makes daily maintenance significantly easier. It also includes Shark’s Anti-Odour Technology cartridge, which fits inside the Auto-Empty Base to help minimise unwanted smells.

Build quality feels solid throughout. The floorhead, wand, and accessories connect securely, with no excessive movement or creaking. The overall construction gives confidence that it can withstand years of regular use.

Daily Usage Experience

After setup, the vacuum sits neatly on its charging base and blends well into modern interiors. It looks attractive enough to remain visible rather than being hidden inside a cupboard.

I used the Shark PowerDetect Clean & Empty Cordless Pet Vacuum for more than a month as my primary cleaning device. Instead of constantly adjusting power levels manually, the vacuum automatically reacts to different cleaning conditions.

The FloorDetect system identifies hard floors and carpets, then adjusts suction accordingly. DirtDetect increases power when it detects extra debris. Edge Detect boosts suction near corners and skirting boards where dust typically accumulates. Direction Detect even allows effective cleaning when pulling the vacuum backwards, reducing the need for multiple passes.

The LED display provides useful real-time information, including battery status and cleaning mode. This makes monitoring the vacuum much easier during longer cleaning sessions.

For UAE homes with a mix of tile flooring, carpets, sofas, and curtains, converting to a handheld vacuum proves extremely useful. The included Motorised Pet Tool works particularly well on sofas and fabric surfaces where hair tends to collect.

Battery Life

Battery life is impressive. The battery is attached below the handle grip and is charged directly from the Auto-Empty Charging Base. If required, the removable battery can also be charged separately using Shark’s optional charging cradle.

In Eco mode, reaching close to the advertised 70-minute runtime is realistic for standard household cleaning. Boost mode naturally consumes more power but delivers excellent suction for deep cleaning sessions.

My Personal Experience

I have used the Shark PowerDetect Clean & Empty Cordless Pet Vacuum in my 2-bedroom flat with a terrace. Of course, I didn’t use it in the wet areas. It was very easy to use the product, and the balance was excellent, but it was a little heavy on top, as this unit houses the motor and battery that power the vacuum. However, the weight distribution also helps the vacuum glide smoothly across hard floors. The weight becomes more noticeable when using the Motorised Pet Tool, Multi-Surface Tool, or Duster Crevice Tool in handheld mode.

Control Button

The vacuum unit, when used, detects dust automatically and adjusts the vacuum power accordingly. A soft-touch button located beside the handle allows users to switch between Eco, Detect, and Boost modes manually

One limitation I noticed is that the vacuum cannot stand upright independently without the Auto-Empty Base. You need to keep it on the floor, horizontal, to avoid damaging the unit.

Let us talk about each of the accessory units which came along with the Shark PowerDetect Pet vacuum.

Auto-Empty Charging Base

The Shark PowerDetect Pet vacuum can be bought standalone or with the Auto-Empty Charging Base. The advantage of this unit is that you don’t need to empty the vacuum daily. As the vacuum unit is small, it may hold dust for 1-3 days, depending on your usage.

With the Auto-Empty Charging Base, you have to place the Shark PowerDetect Pet vacuum on the charging base properly. The Auto-Empty Charging Base detects the contents and automatically empties dust from the vacuum unit into the base. Also, the base unit comes with Shark’s anti-odour can, which avoids unwanted smell from the base unit. Depending on the usage, you can empty the base after 45 days or more, as it has a capacity of 0.7 Litres.

DuoClean Detect Floorhead

The Shark Dual Brush-Roll System (commonly known as DuoClean) is the core mechanical technology inside the primary floorhead. It eliminates the need to switch floor nozzles when moving between different surfaces. By pairing two distinct motorised rollers in a single chamber, the system maintains continuous floor contact to maximise debris pickup.

How the Two Rollers Work Together

Traditional vacuum heads rely on a plastic front lip that can push large debris forward like a bulldozer. The dual brush-roll system replaces that front lip with an open-air roller design:

The Front Soft Roller

Covered in a soft, microfiber fleece, this roller acts as a sweeper. On hard floors, it polishes away fine dust and pulls in large particles (like cereal or pet kibble) without scattering them. On carpets, it creates a tight seal to ensure maximum suction pressure.

The Rear Fin Roller

Positioned directly behind the soft roller, this brush-roll features stiff bristles and rubber fins arranged in a chevron pattern. It is engineered to dig deep into carpet piles, agitating and lifting deeply embedded dirt, sand, and pet dander.

The Motorised Pet Tool

The Motorised Pet Tool is a specialised, compact attachment included in the box. Unlike standard air-driven tools that can stall under pressure, this tool utilises a dedicated integrated motor. This motor drives the internal brush roll at high speed, providing the mechanical agitation required to lift stubborn pet hair, fine dust, and allergens from carpeted stairs, car upholstery, mattresses, and sofas. When the main vacuum is converted into a handheld configuration, this tool clicks directly onto the handheld unit for precise, close-quarters cleaning.

The Shark Duster Crevice Tool

In its standard form, the tool has a slim, elongated profile. It concentrates the vacuum’s suction to extract embedded dirt, pet dander, and debris from tight spaces such as car seat seams, baseboard edges, window tracks, and sofa cushions.

By sliding the integrated collar forward, a ring of soft, non-scratch nylon bristles extends over the hard plastic nozzle tip. This converts the accessory into a dusting brush that safely sweeps dust off delicate surfaces, including keyboards, lampshades, picture frames, and blinds, while the vacuum instantly captures the loose particles.

The Shark Multi-Surface Tool

The Shark Multi-Surface Tool is another versatile 2-in-1 accessory included with the Shark PowerDetect Clean & Empty Cordless Pet Vacuum. It is designed to tackle stubborn pet hair and loose debris on a wide range of upholstery, fabrics, and hard surfaces.

This tool features a wide cleaning path and a removable bristle insert to quickly adapt to different cleaning tasks:

Upholstery Mode

With the bristle brush removed, the tool reveals a wide suction nozzle lined with textured fabric strips. These strips create static friction to easily lift embedded pet hair, lint, and fuzz from couches, mattresses, car seats, and curtains.

Dusting Brush Mode

Snapping the stiff-bristle brush collar onto the base converts it into a heavy-duty dusting tool. The bristles agitate and loosen dried dirt, crumbs, or thick dust from durable surfaces like shelving, tabletops, window sills, and car dashboards.

Best Use Cases: Pet Bedding- Cleaning large fabric areas quickly, where the smaller Motorised Pet Tool might be too aggressive. Car Detailed Cleaning: Sweeping floor mats and larger hard plastic trim pieces inside vehicles.

Gentle Agitation: Brushing delicate furniture fabrics without risk of snagging.

Shark PowerDetect Clean & Empty Cordless Pet Vacuum Key Highlights

Auto-Empty Charging Base

The biggest convenience feature is the Auto-Empty system. After docking, the vacuum automatically transfers collected dust into the larger base container. Shark claims the base can hold debris for up to 45 days before requiring emptying.

PowerDetect Intelligence

Multiple sensors continuously monitor floor type, dirt levels, edges, and cleaning direction. This allows the vacuum to optimise performance automatically. The Vacuum unit, when used to clean the floor edge, automatically detects the proximity to the wall, increases the vacuum power, and keeps only one LED light on the DuoClean Detect Floorhead to indicate the corner and help see the dust.

Anti Hair Wrap Plus

The brushroll effectively handles long hair and pet hair while reducing tangles. This is particularly useful for families and pet owners.

Flexology Design

Cleaning under beds, sofas, and tables becomes significantly easier without repeatedly bending down.

Strong Multi-Surface Performance

The DuoClean Detect floorhead performs well across hard floors, carpets, and rugs with minimal manual intervention.

What Could Be Better?

Weight in Handheld Mode: The top-mounted motor and battery can feel heavy during extended handheld cleaning sessions.

Cannot Stand Upright Independently: The vacuum relies on the Auto-Empty Base for vertical storage.

This creates better review balance and improves trustworthiness.
