I have received the Viewsonic LS550WHE projector for review from their PR agency.
Design & Specs
The Viewsonic LS550WHE projector comes with a dimension of 293 x 221 x 115mm and weighs 2.45kg and a gross weight of 3.55kg. It can project images from VGA (640 x 480) to FullHD (1920 x 1080) resolution on the screen. It can provide a screen size of 60″- 300″. It can provide the 3,000 ANSI Lumens brightness with the 3rd generation LED technology with a 30,000-hour lifespan. It is WXGA short-throw projector. It can contrast 3000000:1 and has film mode. As for the audio, it comes with a 5Watt built-in speaker with Dolby Digital Plus. It has HDMI 1.4/ HDCP 1.4, USB Type-A (5V/2A, Service), RS-232, Lan, 3.5mm Audio, lock and power port. It consumes 157W and <0.5W Watt max of electricity on standby.
The Review
The Viewsonic LS550WHE (Projector) comes in a rectangular shape. The front side has the 3rd generation LED technology DLP Bulb with a convex lens. The back panel has all the ports. The left and right side panels have air vents. On the top, you have the control buttons – power buttons, keystone buttons, source button, colour mode button, enter button, menu/exit button and blank button. The panel also has LED indicators – power, temperature and bulb. The Viewsonic LS550WHE (Projector) comes with a remote control which helps to control all the functions of the projectors.
The Viewsonic LS550WHE (Projector) comes in sustainable brown hard packaging with one black colour printing. The package contains the projector with remote control, user manual and two types of power cable.
Once you connect the projector with the power cable and LED DLP lamp switches on within a few seconds. The top panel also has the focus dial which helps to set the focus distance to the projection screen.
Pros
The Viewsonic LS550WHE (Projector) LED DLP lamp has a convex lens design in front of the lamp due to which the distance between the projector and screen is reduced drastically. It was possible to project a display of 100+ inches from a distance of fewer than 5ft. The projector was placed on a table to create a higher angle, there is a small plastic base screw which you can unscrew to increase the height, you can change the angle – Height: +/-40°, Vertical: +36°/-40°. The colour reproduction on the screen was great. It can provide a screen size of 60″- 300″.
The Viewsonic LS550WHE Projector’s remote control has all the functions by which, we could control the projector. You can control the keystone to volume rocker and colour mode and eco mode and a lot more. The life of the lamp is 30000 lumens, so with an average of 5-6hours per day, the lamp will last more than 5 years+.
The projector is quite silent even with the cooling fans but can’t say on longer usage.
Cons
As the distance was shorter for projection and I wanted to have a higher angle, I had to use an additional block base to change the angle of the projector. As the DLP lamp has a convex lens.
While the projection was done from a table and the angle upwards. Due to the convex lens, the image projection on the screen has the edges a little blur. So you have to ensure manually the focus point is in the centre or above and the bottom projection is a little blur.
The viewing distance of the projection for a size of 120 inches has to be a minimum of 6 feet or more. On close viewing, you can pixel layout on the screen (distance – 2feet).
It doesn’t have any built-in media player or network software to connect directly to other electronic devices via Wi-Fi. So you can share videos directly from your laptop or smartphone.
Overall Verdict
The Viewsonic LS550WHE is a very good short-throw projector and perfect for consumers and corporations who have an issue with space and require a big projection in the room. The image quality is great and can be used for viewing videos, and images via a connected source. It comes with a remote control which all the necessary functions to control the keystone and more. The focus is manually set with the focus dial which is present on the top of the device.
