Review of Samsung Galaxy Watch6 Classic Astro Limited Edition in the UAE

Samsung has been known to provide the latest products in Smartphones, Tablets, Watches, Earbuds, TVs, Monitors and Home Appliances. They have been a global leader in smartphones and Television.

Samsung Electronics Middle East & North Africa (MENA) recently launched the Samsung Galaxy Watch6 Classic Astro Limited Edition at the Samsung Galaxy Open Market, Star Atrium at The Dubai Mall on 27^th August 2023. I got the watch in beautiful packaging for review.

Design & Specification

Body & Display

Samsung Galaxy Watch6 Classic Astro Limited Edition comes in 47mm diameter with Sapphire Crystal Glass for protection. The display is a 1.5-inch AMOLED Display with 480 x 480 pixels and ~453 ppi density. The watch display brightness is at 2000nits. The watch comes with Astro inspired rotating bezel. The body comes with dimensions of 46.5 x 46.5 x 10.9 mm and weighs 59 grams.

The watch is waterproof and has 5ATM* certification and an IP68 rating which means you can dive wearing the watch to 50 meters. The watch comes with a matt black color synthetic leather strap which fixes to the dial with a click button. The strap has two loops which help to secure the strap properly. The body is made of a stainless steel frame and comes in a shiny black colour. There are two buttons on the right side of the dial which controls the ON/OFF and different function modes. The top right side button is indicated with a thin red line which shows the power up button. The left side is clean.

Operating System & Features

It has Operating System Android Wear OS 4 and One UI Watch 5 interface. It comes with Exynos W930 (5 nm) with Dual-core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A55 and Mali-G68 for GPU. The watch comes with 16GB ROM and 2GB RAM. The watch has a loudspeaker and NFC connectivity. It has Bluetooth 5.3, A2DP and LE for connectivity. It uses a Global positioning system from GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO and BDS.

The watch has all the sensors which include Accelerometer, gyro, compass, heart rate, barometer, thermometer (skin temperature), and 3D Hall sensor. It supports Natural language commands, dictation and Samsung Pay. The watch supports Qi wireless charging and comes with a non-removable Li-Ion 425 mAh battery.

The Review

The Samsung Galaxy Watch6 Classic Astro Limited Edition is similar to the Samsung Galaxy Watch6 Classic but bigger display, and thinner with an Astro Rotating Bezel. It has additional features with make this watch more interesting compared to Watch6 Classic. Firstly the watch is a limited Edition which Samsung Electronics Middle East & North Africa (MENA) has released for this region with special beautiful packaging.

Beautiful Packaging

The box or packaging is unique compared to other watches sold in the market. The box is a rectangular big box which comes in Navy Blue and blue colour with Astro LAB symbols and “Astro Edition” words with all the details embossed in silver colour. The whole box has the Astro symbols printed via UV print.

The box opens from the centre and slides to the sides but doesn’t come out totally. Inside you will find the silk matt paper with introducing the Samsung Galaxy Watch6 Classic Astro Limited Edition. Below the paper, you will find the watch in a separate white box which has the Watch 4 colour printed image with text written in black text. Below the watch box, you will find the additional Samsung Fabric Band in a box. The package also contains a QR code for Exclusive Access to the promotion Store and a series of Astro Edition Collectibles Edition (Holographic silver stickers).

The Samsung Galaxy Watch6 Classic Astro Limited Edition box comes with a Samsung magnetic Qi charger which connects to a USB Type-C connector and comes with a warranty card and a quick start-up guide.

Body Details

The Classic Astro Watch display is 30% larger than the Watch6 Classic. What makes this watch unique is the Astro marking on the watch bezel compared to the Watch 6 Classic. This design adds a more beautiful touch to the looks of the watch. The main feature is the digital dial design “AstroLab”. This digital dial showcases a compass, Moon Phase, solar tracker and calendar which shows the flow of time. This allows the user to calculate the day of the month based on the moon’s position.

The rotating bezel contains etchings of constellations and celestial bodies, while an exclusive watch face shows a moving galaxy with a moon attached to the second hand. The watch face also comes with a couple of complications — there’s a compass on the right, and another to “track movements of the sun and moon” on the left. The Watch supports Always-On Display

Functions & Features

As for the additional features the watch comes with ECG readings, SpO2 readings, Altitude readings, thermometer readings and a lot more. This watch has all the features for use for adventure, sports like running, walking, hiking, treadmill, Exercise biking, Elliptical trainer, Circuit Training, weight machines, Freehand workout cycling, swimming indoors and outdoors and a lot more. Just by rotating the bezel, you can access all the functions like relaxing breathing exercises, Sleep tracking, checking the weather and temperature in your area, notifications, Time zones and Blood Pressure tracking.

The box came with an additional pair of black fabric straps and I was happy about it but later found out it was longer than the one that came with the watch and the end of the strap hung out and crossed the dial. Maybe it is given to people with bigger wrists.

The step tracking works great and the features are great. Maybe, this is my personal issue, I found with the watch is the size of the watch for my hand, especially while sleeping as I was not comfortable due to the size and thickness of the watch. The second reason was the watch’s battery life lasted for 2-3 days compared to another brand watch which last almost 14 days. I hoped the new Samsung watches would have better battery life compared to the earlier versions.

5 ATM & IP68 Certification

The Watch is waterproof can used up to 50 meters depth and is IP68 rated, so nothing to be worried about regarding dust and water. The body has a stainless steel frame but not sure it may not work under rugged extreme conditions. But the plus point is the looks, style and Astro bezel which makes the watch look rich and can go along with any kind of style of fashion. You can buy additional different colours and types of straps from the Samsung website or e-commerce sites.

Verdict

Overall the Samsung Galaxy Watch6 Classic Astro Limited Edition is a beautiful watch with a 47mm AMOLED Display with a beautiful Astro symbol and designs on the bezel. It has all the latest features from ECG, SpO2, thermometer reading, blood pressure* tracking and a lot more.

The price is premium as it is a limited Edition and only available in 11 countries: Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates. The watch comes with an additional fabric strap in the box.

Overall verdict – Stylish, Premium, goes along with all the types of men’s clothing and it is 5ATM & IP68 Certified. You can buy this limited edition watch from the Samsung website for AED1,999.
