Sony uses a dual-material diaphragm driver measuring 8.4mm, which helps deliver deeper bass while maintaining detailed high frequencies. The earbuds support advanced audio technologies including Hi-Res Audio Wireless, LDAC codec, and DSEE Extreme sound processing.

Earbuds

The earbuds themselves feature a rounded design that fits deeper inside the ear canal. Sony redesigned the internal airflow and ear-tip structure to reduce pressure during long listening sessions. Each of the earbud comes with 95 mAh lithium-ion battery

Each earbud includes four microphones, which support adaptive noise cancellation and improved ambient sound mode.

Sony’s new QN3e HD Noise Cancelling Processor works alongside the Integrated Processor V2. They analyze environmental noise and adjust cancellation in real time.

Sony claims this combination improves noise reduction by around 25 percent compared with the earlier generation.

The earbuds have touch controls. These allow users to manage playback and noise cancellation. They also allow voice assistant access without reaching for their phone.

Experience

During everyday use, the WF-1000XM6 quickly demonstrates why Sony remains one of the strongest competitors in the premium earbud category. Sony WF-1000XM6 comes in trademark recyclable material packaging box. The box is divided in multiple parts. When you open the top cover, you will find the WF-1000XM6 charging case with the Earbuds. Below the charging case sleeve, you will find the paper sleeve. It holds the Warranty paper. The sleeve also has the QR code for the start-up guide. Below this paper sleeve, you will find the 3 extra pairs of different sizes of memory foam ear-tips. And there is short USB Type-C to USB Type-A charging cable.

Connecting with the Sony Audio Application

Open the WF-1000XM6 earbuds. Bring them near your smartphone. You will get a pop-up to connect with your Bluetooth. I already downloaded the Sony Audio App on my phone. I just opened the application and connected with the smartphone. Later, I downloaded the latest firmware for the earbuds.

Sony’s earbuds work best when paired with the Sony Sound Connect application. The app provides full control over the listening experience. Users can adjust noise cancellation levels, allow ambient sound, or personalize touch controls.

Sony also includes a 10-band equalizer, which allows detailed sound tuning based on personal preference. The application supports 360 Reality Audio with head tracking, creating a more immersive listening experience when supported content is available.

The app also monitors earbud fit and suggests adjustments to improve noise cancellation performance. Multi-point pairing within the app allows the earbuds to stay connected to two devices at the same time. This feature is useful for switching between a laptop and a smartphone.

Design & Comfort

But I had small issue while wearing for 3 hours or more. I had to remove the earbuds for a few seconds. This gave a little comfort to my ear canal. The earbuds are held on by the ear conch and ear notch. But this usually happens with all earbuds which hangs on the ear conch and ear notch. No doubt, the ear-tips are memory foam ear tips. It is hybrid or polyurethane-based foam design that compresses for insertion and expands slowly to conform to your ear canal.

Comfort remains one of the strongest improvements compared to older Sony earbuds. The refined shape reduces fatigue during extended listening sessions. Users with smaller ears still need to experiment with different ear-tip sizes to achieve the best fit. Overall, Sony delivers a well-balanced design that combines comfort, durability, and premium materials.

Audio Quality

Sony’s reputation for audio performance remains the strongest reason to consider the WF-1000XM6.

The new 8.4mm dynamic driver produces a balanced sound signature with deep bass, clear mids, and detailed highs. Bass response feels tight and controlled rather than overwhelming. Electronic music and hip-hop tracks gain from the punchy low-frequency performance. Mid-range frequencies stay clean and natural, which enhances vocals and acoustic instruments. High frequencies sound crisp without becoming harsh. This balance allows long listening sessions without fatigue.

The LDAC codec support allows compatible Android devices to stream high-resolution audio wirelessly. Sony’s DSEE Extreme processing also restores detail in compressed audio files, improving the listening experience when streaming music.

The interesting part was the little details which I experienced while listening to LDAC music. I hear the small nooks and bird sounds in the background distance. I also got a very good deep bass, which I normally get on over-the-ear type headphones.

Joined with Sony’s adaptive noise cancellation, the earbuds create an immersive listening environment that highlights musical detail.

Connecting Multiple Devices

The Sony WF-1000XM6 can connect with multiple devices. So my first connection was with the smartphone. My second connection was with my laptop. An interesting thing I found out happened when I was listening to my music on the Anghami Application. I switched on an extra application that was showing a cricket match. Obviously, the audio shifted to the cricket match. After closing the Cricket App, it switched back to the music automatically. But when I was watching YouTube on laptop and paused the music on my smartphone. I wanted the YouTube content to be continuously ON, but it stopped multiple times. This happened without even touching the mouse or using the smartphone and the smartphone switch on automatically. This only stopped when I forcefully stopped the music application. My setting on the Sony audio application was basic and there was no changes done. This has never happened with any other brand earbuds.
