With the celebrating a decade since the launch of the first Galaxy S smartphone, Samsung Gulf launched the S10 series of the smartphone on March 6th 2019 at Caesars Palace, Bluewaters Island Dubai.

Under the S10 series, 3 variants of devices were released – the Samsung S10, Samsung S10e and Samsung S10+. Under the S10+ series, there are 3 variants of smartphones available for the consumer to buy

a) Samsung S10+ with 128GB ROM + 8GB RAM b) Samsung S10+ with 512GB ROM + 8GB RAM and c) Samsung S10+ with 1TB ROM + 12GB RAM

So after a long wait finally Samsung provided the Samsung S10+ with 1TB ROM + 12GB RAM for review and as it is the highest configuration smartphone in the Samsung series of devices. This is also the most expensive Samsung mobile device available in the market priced at AED 5799.

The review unit which I received is the top of the range of the Samsung S10+ devices and they call it the “Ultimate Performance Edition”.

Body & Specification

The Samsung S10+ has a dimension of 157.6 x 74.1 x 7.8 mm and weighing 198gms and body is made of an Aluminum frame with rose gold colour with curved front glass (Gorilla Glass 6), back glass (Gorilla Glass 5) and with the ceramic finish on the back panel. It has 6.4 inches Dynamic AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 1440 x 3040 pixels display and 19:9 ratio body. It has Infinity-O Display packs an array of sensors and camera technology into a hole-in display which houses Dual 10 MP, f/1.9, 26mm (wide) and 8 MP, f/2.2, 22mm (wide), depth sensor cameras. The Galaxy S10+ display includes the Ultrasonic Fingerprint Scanner that reads the 3D contours of your physical thumbprint. As mentioned by Samsung, the fingerprint sensor has the world’s first FIDO Alliance Biometric Component certification, this next generation biometrics authentication offers vault-like security to keep your device safe.

The back panel has a ceramic white finish which is very sleek and stylish and the finger smudges will not be easily visible. You can also protect the smartphone with TUV Case which comes along the device in the package.

The back panel has the Triple camera which is housed in a little bevelled rectangular with gold rim panel and the cameras placed in a straight horizontal line with the LED flash on the extreme right.

The triple cameras are 12 MP, f/1.5-2.4, 26mm (wide), 12 MP, f/2.4, 52mm (telephoto), 2x optical zoom and 16 MP, f/2.2, 12mm (ultra wide).

The sides of the device are rose gold colour with the power button on the right-hand side and the volume rockers and the Bixby buttons on the left-hand side.

The bottom side we have the 3.5mm jack, the USB type C charging pin and the speaker grill. The top side has the Dual SIM tray with can also use one of the trays for MicroSD card but I am sure with Storage of 1TB available for you internally, you may not require a microSD space.

The configuration of the Galaxy S10+ review unit has 12GB of RAM and 1TB ROM (Storage space) and has the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset with built-in Mali-G76 MP12. It has the latest Android Pie (9.0) for OS and One 1.1 for User Interface. The S10 Plus is IP68-rated for water-resistance and boasts Qi wireless charging and comes with Non-removable Li-Ion 4100 mAh battery.

The Review

The Galaxy S10+’s white ceramic back panel with rose gold sides and gold rim on the cameras housing panel makes the phone a very stylish, classy, sleek and can be used by all the genders.

With the triple camera set up on the back panel, you can click 123-degree wide angle photographs, so now you can click a group of people from a close distance or capture the panoramic view of the landscape. With Al feature in the camera, the camera app also includes a Scene Optimizer with 10 new subjects.

Another feature which I like in the camera app after the image is taken, you click on the “Details” to see the size, categories, aperture, focal length, ISO, Exposure time.

The camera app has 3 ready presets- Wide-angle, 1x and 2x optical zoom. But as you increase to further than 2x and max to 10x zoom the quality of the image deteriorates.

In the daylight, the cameras performed very well but I was a little disappointed in the low light photography as there was a lot of noise in the images.

In video mode, the camera performed very well at the 3 preset levels in daylight but in a low light similar issue as mentioned above for photography.

Another issue which I have found it persist common in Samsung devices is the heating up, if you are using the Camera App for longtime or especially video mode, the body especially the back panel gets quite warm and actually you can feel the heat on your fingers.

As for the front (selfie) camera, the dual camera performed very well and the Bokeh effect was amazing. The focus was quite fast and it has 2 presets – 1x and wide angle.  The front camera also has Ai support and automatically suggest the exposure.

Galaxy S10+ makes already smart features more accurate with a Neural Processing Unit (NPU). And with Shot Suggestion, Galaxy S10 offers automatic composition recommendations so you can frame your photo better than ever.

The Samsung Galaxy S10+ has Dolby Atmos and you can experience it with using the AKG Earbud headphones which has the 3.5mm pin and comes along the package.

Samsung_Galaxy_S10Plus-AKG_earbud_headphones_with_3,5mm_jack

Honestly, the AKG earbuds Hi’s, Mids and Low’s sound quality are really awesome and they are light so you don’t really feel them wearing it on your ear.

Power and Performance

With the Android 9.0, OS and recently released Samsung’s One UI, the new AI software on the Galaxy S10 series automatically optimizes battery, CPU, RAM, and even device temperature based on how you use your phone and continues to learn and get better over time. Leveraging AI-capabilities, Galaxy S10+ also learns how you use your device to launch your most frequently used apps faster.

With the 12GB RAM, latest Snapdragon 855 chipset, Android Pie, Galaxy S10+ performance was amazing and while testing on different benchmarks, it scored quite high.

I have tested the smartphone 3 different benchmarks:-  a) AnTuTu – 322416  b) PCMark – 7883  c) 3Dmark – Sling Shot Extreme – Open GL ES 3.1 4341 & Sling Shot Extreme- Vulkan – 3705.

During the benchmark test, the smartphone heated up to 39 degrees and under stress test, it shot up to 41.9 degrees.

Even while installing Asphalt 9 mobile game, the phone CPU temperature was exceeding 52 degrees and while playing the game the CPU temperature when up to 58 degrees.

I could actually feel the heat on my fingers while playing and made me uncomfortable to play for a longer time.

But there is was no lag or delay in the graphics performance of the device.

So I presume Samsung tech team should look at this factor and try to provide some kind of cooling system in the device.

Security and other supports

Samsung Galaxy S10+ comes with very own Knox platform that encrypts data to keep from prying eyes. Other than face recognition, pattern, pin and Samsung S10+ comes with the display the Ultrasonic Fingerprint Scanner that reads the 3D contours of your physical thumbprint. As mentioned by Samsung, the fingerprint sensor has the world’s first FIDO Alliance Biometric Component certification, this next generation biometrics authentication offers vault-like security to keep your device safe.

It has got its own Bixby automates your routines and provides personalized recommendations to make your life easier. With pre-set and personalized routines, such as Driving and Before Bed routines, which are customized based on your habits.

It comes with Samsung Health, Samsung Pay and Samsung DeX and has Fast Wireless Charging 2.0. The Galaxy S10+ is ready with Wi-Fi 6.

It has got Wireless PowerShare, making it possible to easily charge Qi-certified smartphones and even compatible wearable devices. In addition, Galaxy S10 is capable of charging itself and a second device simultaneously via Wireless PowerShares

Conclusion

Samsung Galaxy S10+ is a great device with power horse performance and with 12GB RAM, you are future ready for any kind of heavy graphics oriented games or software. The 1TB ROM/ Storage is quite a lot for a consumer to use as you are actually carrying a laptop. So much so, you can work on your heavy presentation and save Hi res videos files with the help of Samsung DeX and nothing to worry about space or performance.

Only the regrettable is the heating issue with the phone. The camera performance is daylight was great but failed to impress me in the low light photography. The design and style are top notch and perfect smartphone for all the genders to use. I wish the price could have been lower as it is quite high.

But overall it is a great product for people who can afford to buy.

Who should be buying Samsung S10+ (1TB ROM+ 12GB RAM)?

Firstly, it is expensive product costing AED5799, so who can spend that kind of money should look at it. Corporate and gamers can surely think about this device for its style, power and performance. Bloggers and people who create a lot of videos and require a lot of space can also consider this device. Samsung S10+ (1TB ROM+ 12GB RAM) it is future ready smartphone.
