On 22nd January 2019, HONOR, a leading smartphone e-brand, has launched its latest flagship smartphone, HONOR View20, for consumers worldwide. At the announcement event held in Paris, HONOR highlighted five world’s first features of HONOR View20, including 48MP Camera + TOF 3D Camera, 25MP In-screen front camera with a narrowest 4.5mm opening, 7nm SOC Kirin 980 AI Chipset, Aurora Nano-texture design and the Dual NPU which supports the AI Triple-Antenna Wi-Fi technology. In acknowledgement of these feats of engineering, HONOR View20 won numerous awards at CES 2019 in Las Vegas earlier this month.
There are two colour variants of the Honor View 20 series – midnight black and sapphire blue
Body & Specifications
With a dimension of 6.18 x 2.97 x 0.32 in and weighing 180 gms which includes a non-removal battery, it is a very sleek and stylish smartphone with rounded edges to fit in your hand. The screen is made of IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen and size of 6.4 inches and Full HD resolution of 1080 x 2310 pixels with 91.8% screen-to-touch panel ratio. The front display camera has the notch 4.5mm transparent pinhole. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass.
It uses Android 9.0 (Pie) with the Magic UI 2.0.1 as a user interface. It uses latest HiSilicon Kirin 980 chipset + GPU – Mali-G76 MP10 with 8GB RAM and 256GB ROM for storage.
It has Dual SIM Card Tray Slot and one of the slots can be used for additional storage with microSD card supporting up to 256GB memory. As for the network, it can support 2G/ 3G/ 4G LTE
It comes with the powerful Dual cameras on the rear SONY IMX586 48MP camera with additional cameras for creating depth of field or TOF (Time of Flight) 3D stereo camera. The front camera has a 25 MP lens.
The main camera can shoot video at 2160p@30fps, 1080p@30fps, 720p@960fps, (gyro-EIS), and front camera can shoot video at 1080p@30fps.
The Review
As soon as the phone was launched there were a lot of tech companies and tech gurus posting the review of the Honor View 20 smartphone and I decided to be different by using the product for a longer time and then publishing my review. So after using the Honor View20 for more than 1 months, here is my review below.
When you open the box, you will find the Honor View 20 in translucent packaging and comes with the accessories like SIM card removable tool, Wall charging adaptor, USB Type- C cable for charging and data transfer and earphones with USB Type pin. The package also contains transparent casing to protect the phone from damages and add more grip while using the device.
The device which I have received for review is the Phantom blue but Honor View 20 is also available in Sapphire Blue, Red and black.
The glass back panel has a uniquely different design which makes the Honor View20 standout from other smartphones, it has arrowhead style design which is facing downwards and on tilting in the light, it gives a nice lustrous shine with a unique texture. It is bold and jazzy for new trends of the market but not bad for the looks. As for me, I needed the additional transparent back cover to protect it from slipping from my hand and protecting the phone from damages.
The Volume rockers and power buttons are on the right-hand side of the smartphone and SIM card tray are on the left-hand side of the smartphone.
The top side has the 3.5mm jack and bottom has the USB Type-C charging and data transfer input with the speaker grill. It has triple Antenna for better Wi-Fi connection.
With a 91.8% screen-to-touch panel ratio, the bezel of the phone is thin and screen almost merging with the background of the scenery which you are capturing. The only thing you will notice is in the top area where it houses the sleek earpiece speaker and single lens camera in dew drop shape. The front camera is 25 MP, f/2.0 aperture with 27mm (wide).
The back panel of the HONOR View20 houses the dual cameras with dual-LED dual-tone flash. Now here is the interesting part which makes the HONOR View20 different from Huawei Mate 20 is the camera.
HONOR View20 comes with 48 MP Camera with additional cameras for creating depth of field or TOF (Time of Flight) 3D stereo camera. Not only the cameras give you the Depth of Field for the portrait style blur background images, but the HONOR View20 can also be turned into a motion-controlled gaming console, allowing you to play 3D motion games such as Fancy Skiing and Fancy Darts. With the help of the app, you can do 3D Shaping with the image and videos while using an App. In short, you can do depth sensing, Skeletal Tracking and real-time motion capture with the HONOR View20 smartphone cameras and AI technology which comes along the new Android Pie. The phone also comes with 2x optical zoom for better quality image and it is much better than digital zoom ones.
The HONOR View20 has the Night mode (Multi-exposure) which is similar to super Night Mode introduced in the Huawei 20pro. And with stable hands or better on Tripod, the images are pretty amazing. Even without using night mode the camera capture quality good quality images only the dynamic range in the image is less. With the AI technology, now you can do portrait blur with more depth and also can be replaced with a different background.
The front selfie camera which is 25 MP, f/2.0, 27mm lens, the camera sits behind a 4.5mm transparent circle in the display. The selfie camera performed pretty well under low light condition too. The selfie camera also has the AI support and can recognize different faces, scenarios and 1500 different AI detections.
Please note: While clicking image in night mode, make sure the object you are clicking is not moving and you should be able to click with steady hands. To get a perfectly sharp image, it is advised to use a stand, basically the camera is clicking on various combination of apertures and software creates the best option with the AI function.
Hardware and AI
Now to come to the operating system of the HONOR View20, it has the latest Android 9.0 (Pie) with the Magic UI 2.0.1 as a user interface. So with Android 9.0, the HONOR View20 has all the interesting new features of the AI Functions like the AI beautification, creamy bokeh for portraits, AI recognition up to 500 scenes. Special studio lighting selfies, Night mode, 3D Emojis and many more. Kirin 980 also helps in better for more accurate facial brightness, contrast for selfies on the front cameras and scene-by-scene optimizations for shots taken on the rear and enhancing the photography effects.
Another interesting feature in the phone is the calories count App, in which you point out the main camera on the food and with help of the AI, it will detect the food on the plate and will tell you the calories count but remember these are as per the images captured in the past by users or available on the internet and in future, this will develop further with more data getting added by users across the globe. The AI object identifies can also identify over 300 famous landmarks and 100,000 paintings from around the world.

Smartphone for gaming and entertainment
HONOR View20 is powered by HiSilicon Kirin 980 processor with 8GB RAM and with the usage of GPU Turbo 2.0* which makes the gaming experience more fluid. On the test run with games like Asphalt 9 and Traffic Rider, the phone had no issues in delivering a smooth, stable gaming experience. Thanks to 6.4 inches and Full HD resolution of 1080 x 2310 pixels with 91.8% screen-to-touch panel ratio, it was fun playing games on the smartphone and the sound quality was good. It has a Liquid Cooling System with S-shaped heat pipe to decimate the heat. The HONOR View20 comes with Triple Antenna Wi-Fi, so matter how you hold the smartphone, the Wi-Fi signal would be strong. With 4000 mAh battery, you longer hours to play games and view online entertainment.
Also as per research on the net so far heavy intensive mobile games have not used more than 4GB RAM and with 8GB RAM, you are future ready.

Is it a good smartphone for a businessman?
A businessman requires a long-lasting battery, storage, protection and most important fast response from a smartphone. HONOR View 20 with its powerful chipset, RAM and storage, it could be the perfect phone for daily usage in the corporate environment. With 6.4 display screen, you will have better viewing of presentation, product demo videos or even creating one with right APPS. With 4000 mAh, you will have nothing to fear about a drained battery by the end of the day. Even you require more power, you can charge it fast with USB Type C.
Conclusion
HONOR View20 is a very good smartphone for the price, the phone is a high-end smartphone with all the best features for gaming, watching online entertainment. The built quality and colour makes the phone very rich and stylish. With triple cameras with AI support makes this smartphone one of the best in the market, as for the selfies, the single 25MP lens can make difference with the AI function which can give very nice creamy Bokeh effect and focus on your face. It has a quick and sharp focus system.
With 8GB RAM and 256GB ROM space, it is a good smartphone for the price and can run for the money to its competitors. Gaming is fluid with accessible GPU Turbo 2.0 which comes along the Kirin 980 chipset.
With all the AR and AI effects and function, it is a very young, stylish and perfect companion for the teens, gamers, businessman and fashion conscious people.
