Computer Monitors have been there for a decade and more. But with the evolving technology, the desktop has gone for many folds of changes from CRT to Slim Panels – LCD, IPS, and more.
BenQ is known for manufacturing monitors for Desktop, Creative, and Gaming for a long time.
In 2015, BenQ acquired Zowie Gear brand which was known for gaming and it became the new gaming division. They also added mice, mousepads, sound cards, monitors, and other gaming accessories.
We have received the BenQ GW2480T “Eye-Care Monitor for Students” and BenQ ScreenBar e-Reading LED Task Lamp for review.
Body & Specification
The BenQ GW2480T Monitor comes with a dimension of 528x540x230mm. The IPS panel has a size of 23.8 inches and comes with an aspect ratio of 16:9 and a contrast ratio of 1000:1. You can get Max. resolution 1920 x 1080 at 60Hz with HDMI (v1.4), and Display area of 527.04×296.46 with a brightness of 250 cd/㎡. It has a 12M:1 of dynamic contrast ratio.
It comes with D-sub, HDMI, DisplayPort (v1.2), and 3.5mm headphone and line-in Jacks.
The monitor has a built-in power supply (100~240 AC) and consumes 27 Watts (on Mode) and Power Consumption (based on Energy Star) 16Watts of electricity. The monitor weighs 5.4 Kg and a gross weight of 7.4 kg.
Review
The BenQ GW2480T was reviewed for at least 2 weeks. The Monitor was used more for creative and online content like Video Editing and image editing and web.
BenQ GW2480T monitor on the BenQ website is shown meant for students for their daily usage and regular school work.
BenQ GW2480T for Students
The most important for any student is the comfort level for the eyes and viewing angle of the monitor
With a display size of 24inches. the LCD (IPS) panel was soothing to the eyes even working for long hours. The monitor comes with Eye Care which has 3 options – Bright Intelligences, Low Blue Light, and Color Weakness, and the monitor comes with Flicker-free technology.
Even with the resolution gave 1920 x 1080px at 60Hz, it didn’t make a major difference in working on the image edition. The color was vibrant and the text was crisp, no doubt this, not color corrected monitor but as a creative artist, I had color-calibrated the monitor to suit my needs. There are ready options available with color settings meant for Multimedia, Web Surfing, Office, and reading.
The monitor comes with 1 Watt, 2 audio speakers but honestly, need a better quality speaker for work or play. Still wonder why does BenQ add them in the first place. Suggestion – could have added at least a pair of 15 Watts speakers as the monitor is targeted for students. Maybe that will increase the thickness of the monitor.
BenQ GW2480T for Content Creators – Video Editing
As a content creator, I have reviewed the monitor as a secondary monitor for my editing console.
As most of you are aware of video editing and color correction, you require a big size monitor and color calibrated one, so it helps you while you do color correction. But as the monitor is meant for the students, this can be a good start for home editing videos.
With the 24inches display, it was not that great for me as I have been using 27 inches monitor for editing. But the display was pretty good and didn’t trouble my eyes for long hours. The BenQ GW2480T was connected to my system as a secondary display and shifted my editing timeline to some of the features on the monitor.
BenQ GW2480T for E-Gaming
I played for a few hours of game on the BenQ GW2480T monitor. In the Call of Duty game and experience was not bad at all. Of course, can’t compare to the experience on a gaming monitor like BenQ Zowie XL2746S
The frame of the monitor is thin and gives a feel of a bigger display compared to the size.
Versatile Stand & Controls
The versatile stand (100 x 100mm) was another advantage as I could adjust the height, direction, and angle of the monitor as per my choice. It is a similar stand design that is also used for the BenQ Zowie XL2746S gaming monitor. It has height adjustment, angle adjustment, the monitor can Swivel (left/right)- 45˚/45˚ and tilt -5˚ – 20˚ up/ down.
With the versatile stand you can change the monitor to a vertical position and also it helps to connect the necessary cables easily without bending looking under the monitor. Also gives the option to change the height, angle, and direction of the monitor with ease. The monitor comes with a sleek handle to carry the monitor around and a cable management hole for neatly passing all the cables.
The controls are on the bottom right side of the monitor on the frame which meagers with the frame avoiding distraction while using the monitor and the only lit up is the power button on the extreme right.
Conclusion for BenQ GW2480T
BenQ GW2480T monitor is a great monitor for the size, as I have used for Image, Video Editing and even played few games, there was no tiredness in the eyes after hours of usage.
The price of the monitor is a little higher compared to other brands but if you require an e-sport level monitor then you have to spend more compared to regular monitors available in the market.
Cons of BenQ GW2480T monitor: The monitor lacks USB power ports which could have great help to charge electronic devices or power devices like BenQ ScreenBar e-Reading LED Task Lamp.
