On 1st April 2019, Huawei Consumer Business Group (CBG) launched the Huawei P30 Pro smartphone for the Middle East market. The Huawei P30 Pro was launched with a lot of fun and fare including video screening on Burj Khalifa, the world tallest building and world biggest LED screen. The event was done in Burj Park with invitees and media across the Middle East.
Huawei P30 Pro would be the first Huawei Smartphone which has got the 10X Hybrid Zoom in the smartphone. It has got the HUAWEI SuperSpectrum Sensor and SuperZoom Lens which allows pushing the envelope of not just photography, but videography as well. It is the world first Quad Leica lens on a smartphone. It has got a 40MP main camera with a revolutionary 1/1.7-inch SuperSpectrum sensor, a 20MP ultra-wide angle lens, 8MP telephoto camera and HUAWEI Time of Flight (ToF) Camera. HUAWEI ToF Camera captures depth-of-field information to deliver accurate image segmentation and uses precise distance measurement to allow for the simulation of multiple levels of bokeh. It has a 32MP selfie camera mounts the device front and produces AI-beautified pictures.
The 1/1.7-inch HUAWEI SuperSpectrum Sensor looks at light in a fundamentally new way. The RYYB HUAWEI SuperSpectrum Sensor deviates from the traditional RGGB Bayer filter by replacing green pixels with yellow pixels, yielding a high maximum ISO rating of 409,600 on the HUAWEI P30 Pro and 204,800 on the HUAWEI P30.
Body & Specifications
With a dimension of 73.4mm (W) x 158.0mm (H) x 8.41mm (D) and weighing 192 gms which includes a non-removal battery, it is a very sleek and stylish smartphone with rounded edges to fit in your hand. The screen is made of OLED panel and screen size of 6.47 inches and Full HD resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels with 19.5:9 ratios. It has an aluminium body frame and full body (front/back) Glass.
It comes with the latest Android 9.0 (Pie) with the Huawei’s EMUI 9.1 as a user interface. It uses latest Huawei’s HiSilicon Kirin 980 chipset + GPU – Mali-G76 MP10 with 8GB RAM and 256GB ROM for storage.
It has Dual SIM Card Tray Slot and one of the slots can be used for additional storage with microSD card supporting up to 256GB memory. As for the network, it can support 2G/ 3G/ 4G LTE
It comes with the Quad cameras on the rear (Leica Quad camera:40 MP + 20 MP + 8 MP + TOF 3D camera). The front camera has 32 MP lens with f/2.0 aperture.
It comes with a 4200mAh battery which lasts more than 24 hours on average usage.
The main camera can shoot video at 2160p@30fps, 1080p@60fps, 1080p@30fps (gyro-EIS), 720p@960fps and front camera can shoot video at 1080p@30fps. Huawei P30 pro features Leica optics, dual-LED dual-tone flash, panorama and HDR. It can also shoot RAW format images in Pro mode.
The Review
When you open the package of Huawei P30 Pro smartphone, the striking feature is the rounded edges of the phone and the 3D curved glass on the front display and back panel which makes the phone look sleeker and thin.
The package also contains TPU transparent casing to protect the phone from damages and add more grip while using the device.
The device which I have received for review is the Aurora (turquoise) colour but Huawei P30 pro is also available in 3 other colours Breathing Crystal (Light Sky Blue), Amber Sunrise (orange) and Black
The glass back panel layer to produce the unique textures of multiple colours in the light but the glossy finish makes it fingerprint smudge magnet and slippery. So I would prefer to use the TPU Protective Case provided along with the smartphone.
The Volume rockers and power buttons are on the right-hand side of the smartphone and dual SIM card tray is on the bottom of the smartphone.
Huawei P30 Pro has USB Type C charging and data transfer port and also the speaker grill for sound.
Another interesting feature of the Huawei P30 Pro is the earpiece speaker is below the display screen. It uses the HUAWEI Acoustic Display Technology to provide a larger display and increased hearing area. The electromagnetic sound levitation will project sound from the vibrations in the display to your ear.
With the 19.5:9 ratio display, the bezel of the phone is thin and screen almost merging with the background of the scenery which you are capturing. The only thing you will notice is in the top area where it houses the single lens camera in dew drop shape. The front camera is 32 MP, f/2.0 aperture which is enclosed below the display screen in a dewdrop shape on the top edge of the screen.
The back panel of the Huawei P30 Pro houses the quad cameras with dual-LED dual-tone flash. Leica Quad cameras support autofocus (laser focus, phase focus, contrast focus), supports AIS (Huawei AI Image Stabilization). The 3 cameras ((Leica Quad camera:40 MP + 20 MP + 8 MP) are little protruding from the back panel aligned vertically on the top left-hand side of the back panel and the 4th camera (TOF Camera) is below the dual LED flash which is below the glass back panel, so to avoid any damages on the protruding triple cameras, it better to use the translucent phone casing.
Now to the operating system of the Huawei P30 PRO, it has the latest Android 9.0 (Pie) with the Huawei’s EMUI 9.1 as a user interface. So with Android 9.0, the Huawei Android has all the interesting new features of the Huawei Mate 20 Pro like the AI beautification, creamy bokeh for portraits, AI recognition up to 500 scenes. Special studio lighting selfies, Night mode, 3D Emojis and many more. Kirin 980 also helps in better for more accurate facial brightness, contrast for selfies on the front cameras and scene-by-scene optimizations for shots taken on the rear and enhancing the photography effects.
Another feature which Huawei team has highlighted was about the new features of Snapchat but honestly, I am not a big fan of the app, so I have not tried the new features.
Huawei P30 pro Cameras
Since the Huawei “P” series launched years back, the photography and videography have been a lot of importance. All the models which have been released under “P” series have been upgraded in the cameras or the improvement in the technology. All the Huawei P series flagship models come with the Leica lens cameras. Huawei continuing the tradition of bringing in the latest development in cameras and has brought in the Quad cameras for the Huawei P30 Pro.
As mentioned above, the Quad cameras are 40 MP (Wide Angle Lens, f/1.8 aperture) + 20 MP (Ultra Wide Angle Lens, f/2.2 aperture) + 8 MP (Telephoto, f/2.4 aperture) and 3D TOF camera. The new development is the P30 pro smartphone is the 40MP main camera with a revolutionary 1/1.7-inch SuperSpectrum sensor. The Huawei P30 Pro’s best feature is the new periscope telephoto lens. The periscope design uses a prism element to bend light at a 90-degree angle. Together with the colour saturation provided by the 40 MP main camera, and stability of OIS, the SuperZoom Lens offers 10x hybrid zoom and 50x Digital zoom while taking a photo. So we have preset photo mode: Wide angle, 1x, 5x, 10x and for further digital 50x zoom, you have pinch zooming on the screen.
In the video mode you can record in wide angle, 1x, 5x, 10x and with pinch zooming, you can achieve 15x zoom.
Last year, Huawei P20 Pro was the first smartphone of Huawei talking about low light photography and with Mate 20 Pro, it took it to the next level. The Mate 20 Pro got DXOmark of 109 The New Huawei P30 pro cameras achieved 112.
On using P30 Pro for low light photography, it the result has been great, with the use of the AI technology, I have clicked images while using the hybrid zoom and was overwhelmed with the result.
As shown in the advertisement of P30 pro, you can click the moon and saw I tried it and was actually successful clicking an image of the moon with 50x digital zoom. Interestingly the image of the moon came better in photo mode than in night mode.

A perfect smartphone for tourist

Huawei P30 Pro is a very good smartphone for the price, the phone is a high-end smartphone with all the best features for gaming, watching online entertainment. The built quality and colour makes the phone very rich and stylish.
With quad cameras with AI support makes this smartphone one of the best in the market, as for the selfies, the single 32MP lens can make difference with the Ai function which can give very nice creamy Bokeh effect and focus on your face. It has a quick and sharp focus system. The SuperZoom Lens offers 10x hybrid zoom and 50x Digital zoom which makes the smartphone unique in flagship model category.
With 256GB ROM space and 8GB RAM, it is a good smartphone for the price and can run for the money to its competitors. Gaming is fluid with accessible GPU Turbo 2.0 which comes along the Kirin 980 chipset.
With all the AR and AI effects and function, it is a very young, stylish and perfect companion for the teens, gamers, businessman and fashion conscious people. With 3D TOF camera as the 4th camera in a smartphone makes the phone ready for AR based games and also with HOTA update coming in the month of May 2019. The phone will be able to measure the dimension of objects just by pointing the camera with AR built-in APP. Also, the smartphone will be able to record dual screen videos simultaneously (Example: 5x Zoom on the left window and wide-angle video on the right window on the same screen)
