HONOR and ARRI Bring Cinematic Workflows to Mobile Imaging

HONOR-plans-to-integrate-ARRI-LogC3,-ARRI-Wide-Gamut-3-and-ARRI-Looks-into-the-HONOR-Robot-Phone.-AI-generated-editorial-visual.

The company introduced its new AiMAGE imaging engine and announced a joint imaging technology lab with cinema technology specialist ARRI.

The collaboration will also bring ARRI LogC3, ARRI Wide Gamut 3 and ARRI Looks to the upcoming HONOR Robot Phone. These tools are commonly associated with professional colour management and post-production workflows.

Rather than concentrating only on megapixels and camera hardware, HONOR wants to build a wider imaging ecosystem. Its approach combines optical hardware, on-device processing, artificial intelligence and cloud-based creative tools.

HONOR AiMAGE Connects the Imaging Process

At the event, HONOR introduced its “Optics-Intelligence Evolution” principle.

The company describes this approach with a simple idea: optics provide the foundation, while intelligence expands what the camera can achieve.

Supporting this strategy is the HONOR AiMAGE chip-device-cloud imaging engine. It connects different stages of image creation, from capturing a photograph or video to processing and editing it.

At the chip level, HONOR is developing a native AI image signal processor based on Transformer architecture. According to the company, it can reconstruct parts of the traditional image-processing pipeline.

The system will work with a new pixel array and Event Vision Sensor technology. HONOR says these developments should provide stronger image data for AI processing.

On the device side, the company is combining camera hardware with real-time algorithms. Technologies under development include a titanium-alloy three-axis gimbal, precision sensors and optical stabilisation systems.

Meanwhile, the cloud side will support RAW-domain image enhancement, spatial imaging and Imaging Agent tools. These features aim to extend creative capabilities beyond the processing limits of the smartphone.

However, HONOR has not yet detailed which features will run locally or require an internet connection.

ARRI Cinema Technology Comes to the Robot Phone

The cooperation with ARRI is one of the most interesting announcements from the event.

ARRI has a long history in professional filmmaking. Its cameras, lenses, lighting systems and production tools are widely used across the cinema industry.

HONOR plans to integrate ARRI LogC3, ARRI Wide Gamut 3 and ARRI Looks into the HONOR Robot Phone.

LogC3 is designed to retain a wider range of brightness and colour information during recording. This gives editors more flexibility when adjusting footage during post-production.

ARRI Wide Gamut 3 provides a broader colour space. Meanwhile, ARRI Looks can help creators apply controlled cinematic styles to their videos.

These technologies are more than simple camera filters. Together, they form part of a broader workflow covering capture, colour correction and final presentation.

For mobile creators, the potential benefit is greater control over how footage looks after recording. However, the final experience will depend on implementation, processing performance and compatibility with editing software.

HONOR and ARRI Establish a Joint Imaging Lab

HONOR and ARRI have also announced a joint imaging technology laboratory.

The facility will concentrate on three main areas: sensor-level optics and dynamic range, cinema production workflows, and imaging standards during the AI era.

The companies will explore how professional filmmaking principles can be adapted for smartphones and other compact mobile devices.

This cooperation could help HONOR move beyond branding exercises or preset filters. More importantly, it may allow both companies to develop a consistent workflow from recording through post-production.

Filmmakers Test the HONOR Robot Phone

HONOR invited cinematographers Claudio Miranda and Wang Boxue to demonstrate the Robot Phone in creative production scenarios.

Academy Award-winning cinematographer Claudio Miranda also appeared at the event with the HONOR Robot Phone. He used the device to recreate a cinematic scene and explored how mobile cameras could support professional-style filmmaking in everyday environments. His presentation focused on creative flexibility and the potential to make cinematic visual tools more accessible to mobile creators.

HONOR also presented a short film created by Wang Boxue using the Robot Phone in a confined, one-shot production environment.

The compact device allowed the camera to move through spaces that would be difficult for a traditional cinema setup. Wang also highlighted its colour reproduction and potential compatibility with professional post-production.

These demonstrations were organised by HONOR, so they should be viewed as showcases rather than independent tests. Real-world performance will need to be assessed once the final device becomes commercially available.

Supporting Mobile Filmmakers and Creators

Alongside the technology announcements, HONOR revealed the judging panel for the HONOR Magic Stories Awards 2026.

The global mobile imaging competition encourages creators to explore photography, filmmaking and visual storytelling using smartphones.

HONOR also introduced a 48-Hour Extreme Filmmaking Challenge at Hengdian World Studios. Participants will use the company’s imaging technologies for parkour, continuous shots and low-angle action sequences.

Selected films from the challenge will be presented later.

What the Announcement Means

Smartphone brands regularly promote larger sensors, higher resolutions and AI camera features. HONOR’s latest announcement takes a different direction by focusing on the complete creative workflow.

The ARRI collaboration could give mobile filmmakers better control over colour, dynamic range and post-production. It may also help smartphone footage integrate more easily into professional projects.

However, several important details remain unknown. HONOR has not announced the Robot Phone’s complete specifications, price, supported markets or commercial release date.

Until the final product arrives, the announcement should be seen as a preview of HONOR’s mobile imaging direction rather than a finished consumer proposition.
