TP-Link as a brand has been known widely as one of the best brands in networking solutions. TP-Link claims as to be the world’s #1 provider of consumer WiFi networking devices, shipping products to over 170 countries and hundreds of millions of customers.
They are known for their Wi-fi and networking products and also IoT smart solutions for consumers and offices. They have a range of devices from the brand called KASA which deals in security cameras, lighting switches, plugs, smart bulbs and accessories.
TP-Link Middle East has the KASA series of smart bulbs solution for the consumers, corporate and hospitality industries.
Here, we are reviewing the KASA Smart Tunable light- KL-120 which is white LED Bulb which can tune the appearance from a soft white (2500k) to bright light (5000K). Kasa Smart’s tunable white LED light bulb connects to your home’s secure Wi-Fi network. No need for a hub or extra equipment.Set your bulb to automatically adjust its colour temperature to match natural light patterns from dawn to dusk.
Body & Specification
The KASA KL-120 bulb has a dimension of 2.36 x 4.65 in (60 x 118 mm) with E-26 lamp base. It weighs 134gms with an input of 10 watts and output of 800 Lumens. it can operate in -15 ºC~ 40 ºC. It can work with Wi-Fi – 802.11b/g/n
on Wi-Fi frequency 2.4GHz.
It has built-in chipset which helps you to connect and control the bulb via KASA App and doesn’t require to be connected via HUB connection. It can illuminate place with 220 degrees field direction and provide the 2700K-5000K colour temperature. As the product is tunable, you can control the light intensity from dim to full brightness.
The Review
The KASA KL-120 bulb is my first smart bulb reviewed under criticreviewer.com. The packaging of the bulb is multi-coloured which also indicates the brand KASA to provide other varieties of smart bulbs which multi-colour features with tunable control. The packaging is quite sturdy and keeps the smart bulb secured from damages while not in use.
The details of the bulbs like 800 lumens, 25,000 hours life of the bulb, grade quality A++ are mentioned on the package. It has also mentioned about the type of bulb and no requirement of HUB and can be used via an application downloaded from the Andriod and IOS stores.
After removing the smart bulb from the package, I connected the product to the light socket, by the way, the smart bulb which I am reviewing has screw type with thread type E-26 lamp base. So please ensure about your type of socket before you buy any light bulb products.
After plugging the bulb on to the socket, I switch on the switch and light switch on to full 5000K brightness. Then I downloaded the KASA Smart App from the google store. The installation of the application was quick. I followed the procedure, created an account with a login and searched for the KASA KL-120 bulb on the search function. The App has different categories like Smart Bulbs, Camera, Preset scenes, Smart Actions and notifications.
Once the application finds your smart bulbs, click to add and the bulb will blink thrice as an indication of getting connected with your App. You have to create a name for the bulb in your App as this would help you to identify the bulb if you are using multiple KASA smart bulbs in that area or across the floor or building.
Please note: If the bulb was already registered to another account and now been used on the new one, you have to reset the smart bulb by switching ON and OFF the light switch 5 times quick session.
So once connected you can switch ON or Off the smart bulb from anywhere in the room.
There are various option to control your light brightness to change the light from bright white to bright dusk yellowish-orange colour. As it is tunable you can reduce the intensity of the bulb with the circular control on the application according to your requirement. You can use the ready preset or create your own settings and also you can program the lighting as switch on/off or dim as per your requirement.
On the application, it also tells you the amount of the time the bulb was used and how much saving energy compared to general 60 Watts bulb.

Conclusion
The TP-Link KASA Smart Bulb KL-120 is a great product which was easy to fix and control the lighting intensity via the smartphone app. As it doesn’t require any HUB or smart switch to activate the light which makes it a cost-effective light solution for smart home or smart office. As the light is tunable, you can control the intensity of the light as per your requirement and also program your presets via the app.
So overall, I found the product quite useful and help me to make my home, a little smart home at least with one smart light which I could control while lying on my bed and change the intensity of the light and colour from white to dusky sunset lighting.
