Samsung Middle East launched the latest smartphone series in the Middle East on 10th August 2022. Samsung introduced the Galaxy Z Flip4, Galaxy Z Fold4, and Galaxy Buds2 Pro to the market.
Before the launch date, we had the chance to see the devices in Dubai and within a few days after the launch date, I received the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 smartphone for review.
Design and Specifications
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 smartphone (Model- Sm-F21B) comes with a dimension of when folded 71.9mm x 84.9mm x 17.1mm (Hinge) – 15.9mmm (Sagging) and when unfolded 71.9mm x 165.2mm x 6.9mm and weighs 187grams. The phone design is the similar earlier version of the Galaxy Z Flip3 of a foldable smartphone and the main display has a resolution of 2640px x 1080px (FHD+).
The main display on the phone is 6.7″ FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X with ~85.4% screen-to-body ratio (~425ppi density). The display has a 120Hz refresh rate. The display screen is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus+. The foldable smartphone is IPX8 water resistant (up to 1.5m for 30mins).
The cover display comes with a resolution of 512px x 260px with 1.9inches size and display type Super AMOLED Display and protected by Gorilla Glass Victus+ with 302ppi density.
The phone comes with the latest Android 12 with One UI 4.1.1. The phone is powered by Qualcomm SM8475 Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 (4 nm) chipset with Adreno 730. The phone comes with 128 GB of storage and 8 GB of RAM. The device comes with main Dual cameras – 12MP Ultra Wide Camera, 1.12μm, 123˚, Aperture F2.2 and 12MP Wide-angle Camera, Dual Pixel AF, OIS, 1.8μm, 83˚, Aperture F1.8 and LED flash. It has a front/selfie camera which has a single 10MP Selfie Camera, 1.22μm, 80˚, Aperture F2.4.
When the device is opened, the top left side of the device has a single Nano-SIM and supports eSIM. while the top right side has the volume rockers and the power button which doubles as the fingerprint scanner. On the top side you get a noise-cancelling microphone, while on the bottom, you get the USB Type-C port, a speaker grille, and a secondary noise-cancelling microphone.
The Review
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 smartphone was sent to me and I have reviewed it for more than 2 weeks. As per the new sleek packaging of Samsung smartphones, it came in a black silky matt finish box with the word “FLIP” phone on the cover and the word “Galaxy Z Flip4” in Bora Purple. On the bottom, the details of the phone are mentioned with colour type “Bora Purple”, made, make and model no.
Once you open the box, you will find the matt silky black box which contains the USB Type-C cable, Ejector pin tool and warranty card. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 smartphone is packed in one colour black plastic cover.
Samsung has stopped providing the adaptor along the phone and consumers are expected to use their old adaptor or buy a new one from the Samsung Store. Please note: you need a compatible powerful adapter with a USB Type-C pin or the phone doesn’t charge.
The smartphone body is made of an Armor aluminum frame with tougher drop and scratch resistance and a metal shiny finish. Open phone is opened; the front display is Dynamic AMOLED 2X with 2640px x 1080px (FHD+). and protected by Corning Gorilla Victus+. The back panel is Bora Purple colour with the top part houses the small cover display screen and has the jutting out main camera unit on the top right side corner. The main dual cameras are positioned vertically with the LED Flashlight below the cameras.
The single front/selfie camera is embedded in the top centre of the display. When the foldable smartphone is opened and the display is switched off, you can see the fold line but as soon the screen is clicked on you the fold line gets covered with all the display colours. But if you move your finger on the fold area, still can feel the fold bendable screen. The foldable hinge is much better compared to the earlier Samsung foldable model with protection from dust and water. Actually, you can feel the foldable display sticking to the chassis of the smartphone.
The phone is powered by Qualcomm SM8475 Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 (4 nm) chipset with Adreno 730. In terms of software, the Galaxy Z Flip4 runs on the Android 12 operating system with One UI 4.1.1 running on top of it. The device comes with RAM Plus which means the consumer can add more RAM from ROM (storage). It is advisable not to exceed the existing RAM size from the storage.
Cameras
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 smartphone has main dual cameras which are good for the price range. The main dual cameras – 12 MP Ultra Wide Camera and 12 MP Wide-angle Camera are positioned vertically with the LED Flashlight below the cameras.
The camera app has got photo mode, Portrait mode, video mode, Fun mode and more options which have Pro mode, Pro Video mode, Single Take mode, Night mode, food mode, panorama mode, macro mode, super Slow-Mo mode, and hyper-lapse mode. It also has Bixby vision and AR zone.
The main cameras can shoot 4K@30/60fps, 1080p@60/240fps, 720p@960fps and HDR10+. The image output of the cameras in the photo mode and portrait mode was great. The main camera in photo mode has a zoom function from 1x to 10x. There was image distortion on 10 x digital in low light conditions but it was corrected with the software to reduce the noise. In daylight, 10x zoom functions better than at night.
Under the portrait mode, the Bokeh effect was perfect giving natural depth of field and sharpness on the forefront image was crisp and clear.
Under the camera App, there are more options where more presets are available like slow motion, Portrait Video Mode, Pro, Pro Video mode, Night, Food, Panorama, Hyperlaspe and director view. You can select the necessary mode and add it to your camera app and other modes. The Pro modes work only with the main cameras.
The 10 MP, f/2.4, 26mm (wide) selfie camera clicked quite sharp and crisp images. It can click 3648 x 2736px image and 3648 x 2056px video. It has anti-banding mode off 50Hz, 60Hz and auto mode It has option 1x and wide-angle for selfies. The front camera can shoot videos at 4K@30fps. You have different size options from 1:1, 3:4, 19:6 and 9:22 ratios. You can also set the timer from 2sec, 3 secs, 5 sec and 10 sec.
For Selfie flash, the screen turns bright white and it has a motion photo option too which clicks 3-sec video. Under the selfie portrait mode, you have various effects from Blur, Studio, High Key mono, Low key mono, Backdrop and colour point.
Audio & other features
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 smartphone comes with Stereo speakers with the speaker grille on the bottom of the device and the top side has the ear grill. The device has a dual mic which is present on the top and bottom of the smartphone. The speakers are tuned by AKG. The SIM card tray is on the left side of the device.
The device comes with NFC, Bluetooth 5.2, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/6, dual-band, Wi-Fi Direct, hotspot, GPS, USB Type-C 2.0 and USB On-The-Go. The phone comes with non-removable Li-Po 3700 mAh which lasted more than 1.5 days (depending on the usage). The battery can be fast charged with 25Watt and 50% of the battery charged in 30 mins. The phone can be charged wireless with a 15Watt charger and can do reverse charging of other compatible devices with 4.5 Watt.
Benchmark
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 smartphone was tested on various Benchmark apps. The device got a 3DMark benchmark result on Wild Life – 2847. Under the Wild Life Extreme stress test, scored 2847 and the lowest loop score – 1499 and Slingshot Open GL ES 3.1 – Maxed Out. Under PCMark benchmark scored 14230 and the PCMark Storage scored 27152. The GFX benchmark score is Aztec Ruins OpenGL (High Tier) 2478 Frames (39Fps), 4K Aztec Ruins OpenGL (High Tier) off-screen 380.7 frames (5.9 Fps). The Geek bench score is the single score – 1304 and the multi-core score – 4068.
Overall Review
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 smartphone is great a device for its looks, styling, features and price. The phone has 8GB RAM with RAM Plus feature and 128GB ROM (storage) which is good for anything great mobile. The phone cameras are great but not the digital zoom feature. The new interesting feature is the use of the main camera for selfies in a closed and half-opened folded phone. The small display has new animated graphics and can change to your favourite image. You can click images and videos. The benchmark scored excellently. The phone has Wi-Fi6, Bluetooth 5.2 and a 3700mAh battery which is lasted for more than a day and more.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 smartphone comes for the price of AED 3999. It comes in 4 colours – Bora Purple, Graphite, Pink Gold and Blue. The device is available on Samsung Website.
