HUAWEI is a well-known brand when it comes to technology products and devices. Since the HUAWEI brand launched in the UAE, it has brought in the latest devices in the country. Since the first launch of the HUAWEI’s headphones, it has produced one of the best quality headphones, and earbuds as per the latest standards of technology and quality. I have been reviewing most of the launched HUAWEI earbuds launched in the UAE and so far it has never disappointed me.
In the recent Summer Launch event in Dubai on 27th July 2022. HUAWEI Consumer BG launched various devices which included, a flagship laptop HUAWEI MateBook X Pro, a flagship tablet HUAWEI MatePad Pro, HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 2 as well as HUAWEI MateBook 16s and HUAWEI MateBook D 16.
The HUAWEI team and PR have sent me the HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 2 for review just before the launch date. I have used the device for more than a week and used it daily for at least 1-2 hours and some time for 4 hours.
Let us look at the HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 2 in detail in the below review
Design & Specification
HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 2 is the result of a collaboration between Huawei and Devialet – a high-end acoustic technology brand from France. HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 2 case comes with a dimension of 67.9 mm (L) x 24.5 mm (W) x 47.5 mm (H) and weighs around 52 grams. The HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 2 earbuds come with a dimension of 29.1 mm(L) x 21.8 mm (W) x 23.7 mm (H) and each earbud weighs 6.1 grams.
The case comes with a 580 mAh battery and can provide around 30 hours of playback on a single charge with ANC Off and 18 hours of playback with single charging with ANC On. Each earbud comes with a 55mAh battery and can provide 6.5 hours’ playback on a single charge with ANC Off and 4 hours playback on a single charge with ANC On. As for the charging time for the case, it takes about 1 hour for the wired charging case without earbuds in it. When charged wirelessly, it takes about 120mins for charging the case without earbuds. And about 40mins for the earbuds in the charging case.
The HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 2 comes with Ultra-Hearing Dual Driver φ 11 mm dynamic driver + planar diaphragm driver which works from 14 Hz ~ 48 kHz frequency response range. It has a Bone sensor / Accelerometer, a Gyroscope sensor and an Infrared sensor. As for the connectivity, it works with Bluetooth 5.2 and has pop-up pair support and simultaneous Bluetooth connection with dual devices. The earbuds work with smartphones running EMUI10 or above. The HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 2 is IP54 rated, so it is splash resistant during normal use which means, the earbuds will not get damaged with sweat or some splash of water but cannot be used underwater or submerged in water. The earbuds support DAC, AAC and SBC audio formats.
The HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 2 comes in the box which has the earbuds, charging case, three sizes of ear silicone ear tips, a wireless charging case, USB-C charging cable, and a Quick start guide (including safety information) and a Warranty card.
The Review
The HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 2 (Model: T0006) box is a white colour box with 4 colour printed images of the FreeBuds Pro 2 with HNA Hi-Res Wireless Audio and Hi-Res Audio Wireless icon on the box. The box also has the mention of Co-engineered with Devialet on the bottom right of the box.
The backside of the box has 1 colour printed with details of the device highlighting the features of the product. At the bottom of the back side of the box, there is QR Code for the consumers to scan and download the Huawei AI Life App from Android and iOS devices.
Once you open the box, you will find the HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 2 device which has the backside facing the consumer. There is a hologram sticker which has mention Huawei and Devialet written on it. This is the only branding on the case.
Below the device, in another sleeve box which contains three sizes of ear silicone ear tips, a wireless charging case, USB – C charging cable, a Quick start guide (including safety information) and a Warranty card.
The HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 2 which we received is the Sliver Blue colour. The device comes already with some charge, so you can connect the device as soon as you remove it from the box. But personally, I would suggest first charging the device fully (wired or wireless) before you connect with your smartphone. The device can be connected instantly by bringing the earbuds near the smartphone which has NFC switch on and pop-up on the screen you will find the request of the earbuds to pair with your smartphone. If this doesn’t work, then you can download the Huawei AI Life App from the App Store or Google Play Store or simply scan the QR Code from the back of the HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 2 box.
Just follow the procedure to download the App and connect the HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 2 with the smartphone. If you are planning to connect the HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 2 to another device, you can long press the button which is present on the side of the charging case allowing it to be ready for pairing to another device. This is indicated with blinking continuous blue light.
Using with Huawei Music App
As I am already using the Huawei smartphone, for me it was a very simple procedure of opening the earbuds for pairing and connecting with NFC switched on the smartphone. The HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 2 earbuds once paired show up in the Huawei Music App too. Under the sound effect – Headset option, you have “Recommended for you – HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 2” and also there are various options to suit your sound options. You can use the Huawei Music App on the phone which not only helps with a variety of sound settings and also has dedicated presets for Huawei and Honor products to enhance sound quality and music experience. There are preset modes setting like Dolby Atmos, HiFi, Electric, Vintage vinyl, live house, Nostalgic, mega bass, Choral, Driving, 3D surround, Melodies, Headphone, 3D Rotation, Folk, Concert Hall, ACG, Studio, Ethereal, Coffee, KTV Vibes and Kirin (optimized by Kirin chipset) and of course, you have standard modes like pop, classical, rock, Jazz, dance and more.

The HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 2 comes with Ultra-Hearing Dual Driver φ 11 mm dynamic driver + planar diaphragm driver which works from 14 Hz ~ 48 kHz frequency response range. The earbuds come with a total of 3 different sizes of ear tips to fit as per the user’s ear size.
The HUAWEI Freebuds Pro 2 earbuds can be controlled with Press or pinch control by pressing once, twice, three times or a long press. The earbuds also have the swipe up and down touch control.
Audio Quality
The HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 2 was tested for hours on different genres of music from Country, Jazz, Rock, R&B, Soul, Metal, Lounge, Techno, House, Hindi Classical and Hindi Bollywood. The test was done with the Hi-res quality 24bit 96kHz and 320kps Mp3 music and also watched multiple movies.
As I am quite picky about music and devices as I am also an audiophile listener. I made sure I tested for hours while working on my articles as I am doing right now using the device while writing this review too.
From small nooks, and trebles to the perfect rumbling sound of the bass, it sounded perfect and I could feel the different ranges of audio equipment used in the song that is from guitar, to snares, string pulls, and vocal breathing and distance chirping of birds in the lounge music. Even while watching movies, I could hear the long-distance boom and distance crackling of fire sound. Especially, when I put the earbuds to ANC mode, I was isolated from my surrounding at home and felt part of the movie scene I remember one scene, there were fluttering wings in the distance and I looked up thinking pigeons have entered my house again.
For all testing, I used Google hangout and the vocal was clear but the sound was a little suppressed especially the treble both ways listening and speaking was clear. Calls were more clear while using it in a noisy environment.

The HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 2 Earbuds launch price was AED699 and comes in four colours available: – Silver Blue, Silver Frost and White Ceramic. Conclusion
The HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 2 is recommended for everyone who loves music and would like to own a comfortable pair of headphones with a great range of sound quality. With 18 to 24 hours of playtime on a single charge and less than 40mins of charging in the case. But while using Google Hangout, the hearing vocal was clear but the person hearing my voice hears with a little less treble but the voice is clear. The HUAWEI FreeBuds Pro 2 is IP54 rated, so it is splash resistant during normal use which means, the earbuds will not get damaged with sweat or some splash of water. It supports Hi-Res audio and 24bit audio with a special dedicated setting under the Huawei Music App for the earbuds.
