Since 27 years SanDisk has been producing digital storage solutions for consumers and has been one of the favorite brands among the users. In mid-2016, Western Digital acquired Sandisk and maintained the same brand name and have been producing the top quality of portable storage devices for consumers.
In 2017, SanDisk had launched series of the storage device and SanDisk Ultra Dual Drive M3.0 was one of them. I have received the product for review and below are the details
Body & Design
SanDisk Ultra Dual Drive M3.0 is lightweight and compact storage device and weighs 5.2grams and has a dimension of 30.20 x 25.47 x 11.76 mm. As per the SanDisk website claims, the drive can work in 32° – 95° F (0° – 35° C) and storage temperature 14° – 158° F (-10° – 70° C). The actual memory stick is encased in a transparent body which allows the drive to slide and lock on both the sides. So when you want to use to copy or transfer files from an Android OTG enabled smartphone, you can slide out the microUSB pin or do the vice versa for the USB 3.0 or 2.0 for your laptop.
Performance
The product which I have received is SanDisk Ultra Dual Drive M3.0 is an Android OTG storage device which can be used on Android OTG enabled smartphones. The company claims it can transfer files from Smartphones with microUSB port to laptops or Desktops with USB 2.0 or USB 3.0. The maximum read and write speed can reach up to 130 MB/s.
Review & Verdict
SanDisk Ultra Dual Drive M3.0 was tested on a latest #OPPO F7 smartphone which has microUSB port. On my first insertion of the OTG storage device, it was not showing up on the smartphone screen. Then I had to go and enable OTG permission in the setting of the smartphone. (So please do note this point, if the OTG device doesn’t show up on screen then please go to the settings and enable the access to connect to your smartphone).
The SanDisk Memory Zone App downloaded from the Google Play store was an additional help as I could see my phone internal storage, microSD card and SanDisk Ultra Dual Drive M3.0 with total storage availability. I could the files in big icon or list format to use the files to copy.
For the test, I have set of files which contain Documents (172 files), Images (238 images), Videos (9 Videos), and Music (40 songs) which size of 2.53GB.

While testing the SanDisk Ultra Dual Drive M3.0 copying the set files from OTG USB to Laptop on USB 2.0 port, it showed the high speed from 113Mbps to 45 Mbps. While copying the set files from Laptop on USB 3.0 port, it showed high speed up to 130Mbps to 54Mbps. But this was not possible to get the speed while doing same from USB to Smartphone or vice versa.
The SanDisk Ultra Dual Drive M3.0 heated up while transferring the files in all the above testing but it didn’t affect the product. (Please note: Under stress test of the product, the set of files was copied and transferred multiple times continuously.)
SanDisk Ultra Dual Drive M3.0 is a small, handy and well-designed product which can be a very helpful OTG device for consumers who are avid photographers or videographer with the smartphone and may have storage constraint issue on their smartphone.
As per the product, it performed well, especially while transferring from SanDisk Ultra Dual Drive M3.0 to the laptop and Smartphone. The SanDisk Memory Zone App was an additional help and made things easier to copy data and transfer to OTG storage drive.
Who should be buying SanDisk Ultra Dual Drive M3.0
Consumers who are buying budget smartphones which have less space normally would add additional microSD card in the Dual SIM card tray but if the consumer finds the storage less, they can use this OTG product to transfer the excess data for safekeeping or transfer to Laptop. This product great help and faster way for consumers would like to copy data and share with another Android smartphone user as transfer via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth would take quite an amount of time. The consumer can also use this product to take a full backup of the old Android smartphone and transfer to a new OTG enabled smartphone. Also, this product has a small loophole to attach to a keychain so you carry with you anywhere but please do remember, the product is not water and dust resistant and not sure about sturdy and shockproof.
I would recommend SanDisk Ultra Dual Drive M3.0 for all the avid Andriod smartphone photographers and videographers to keep this handy OTG Storage device with them.
