HONOR (stylized as honor), is a sub-brand belonging to networking and telecommunications equipment and services company Huawei. Honor, a sub-brand under the Huawei Group, was conceived in late 2011 and established in 2013. Since its inception, the Honor line of smartphones has helped Huawei compete in budget online brands in China. The Honor smartphones came to UAE around 2015 and have been in competing against the entry and mid-range priced smartphones. Honor smartphone always has been available on e-commerce websites and has been successful in doing so. Around a few months back they decided to come into the retail market with tie-ups with power retailers to sell the smartphone off the shelf for consumers.
HONOR 10 Lite is the last of the honor series of the smartphone to be released in 2018. As said by the Honor team, the honor smartphones are on the top 4 smartphones in terms of market share in UAE. And their target is to be No. 3 position in the smartphone market in the UAE for 2019.
At the press conference, we were given the HONOR 10 Lite smartphone for review and below are the details as our testing.
Body & Design
With the dimension of 154.8 x 73.6 x 8 mm and with a ratio of over 90% screen-to-body ratio, 19.5:9 bezel-less display. It has IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen. It has 6.21-inch 2340 x 1080p FHD display with dewdrop notch. It weighs 162gms. The review unit which we have received is Shiny Red in colour on the back panel. It is Bar design with rounded edges which help from corner getting damaged. The body is shiny with dual colour and goes along as per the trend of the new designs. The HONOR 10 Lite is similar to the earlier Honor series and keeping the price in mind.
It has the power and volume rocker on the right side of the phone, dual SIM card tray on the top, 3.5mm headphone jack, USB 2.0 pin and speaker grills on the bottom.
On the front panel, we have the Selfie camera and ear speaker grill on the top. On the back panel, vertically aligned on the left side are the dual cameras with LED Flash and followed by the printed text “AI Camera” and in the top centre is the fingerprint sensor and Honor logo vertically kept on the bottom.
Cameras & Features
HONOR 10 Lite smartphones come with dual 13MP + 2MP AI dual cameras with a wide F/1.8 aperture lens and LED flashlights as the main camera and for the front camera, it has got 24 MP camera with F/2.0 wide capture. It has got 8 scenarios real-time AI function a great camera for a selfie.
With the dual cameras, you can get real-time bokeh effect with F/1.8 aperture creates a greater depth of field, the rear cameras also have AI function which can detect 22 scenarios with AI optimization.
Operating System, Power and Storage
The HONOR 10 Lite smartphone works on Android 9 (Pie) operating system with its own User Interface (UI) EMUI 9.0. The smartphone has a 3GB RAM and 64GB ROM for storage. Android 9 roughly takes around 12GB space and with all the basic apps downloaded on the smartphone, it will take around to 14GB space. However, having said that, consumers require more space for games, videos and images and so they can get additional space of 512GB by using microSD card in the SIM card dual tray. It has got Hisilicon Kirin 710 (12 nm) processor with Mali-G51 MP4 GPU which was released in mid-2018. The HONOR 10 Lite smartphone comes with 3400mAh battery and can give you more than one full day usage.
Conclusion
HONOR 10 Lite smartphone was reviewed for more than 2 weeks of testing and we found the smartphone to be value for money.
The dual camera performed very well and the Bokeh effect and sharpness on the object and also the colours of the images looked natural.
The 24MP front camera for selfies was good and clicked with beautify and as well as natural and was impressed with the camera. Also tested the Stage lighting effect and worked out pretty good.
The cameras of the HONOR 10 Lite phone performed very well and with features with AI recognition makes it a very good lower mid-range phone with smart features and a good camera phone.
The review unit HONOR 10 Lite came to us as unlocked version and didn’t allow to install AnTuTu benchmark. But it was possible to load 3Dmark benchmark and could a result of 831 & 849 for Slingshot Extreme.
As for the design and looks, the phone looks trendy but without the protective transparent back cover, it is a fingerprint magnet. As the back cover of the phone is a little flexible and on pressing in the centre you could create little depression.
For gaming, we installed Real Racing 3 and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds on this smartphone and it worked with ease. There were no issues, lags and jitters in the graphics performance during the gameplay.
With average usage of calls, texts, browsing and gaming for 2 hours, the battery lasted for more than a day.
It is not a dust proof or water resistant phone, so that is a point which is not good but again in the lower mid-range phone, one cannot expect everything.
The HONOR 10 Lite has USB2.0 pin for charging and transfer of data. The phone has non-removable Li-Po 3400 mAh battery which does fast charging support at 5V/2A 10W.
As for the sound, HONOR 10 Lite has one side speaker on the bottom, so you will not feel the stereo effect while holding horizontally. In terms of quality of sound, treble and mids (vocals) were good but lacked in good bass.
To enjoy stereo music, you have to use the earbud phones which is not included in the package which is disappointing, as I am aware that there are other brands that provide headphones in the same range of phone pricing.
The fingerprint sensor worked quite fast and accurately. The swiping between the apps worked fine and the response was good.
The overall package built quality, performance and features, I am impressed and would recommend budget-oriented consumers to purchase this smartphone.
Price, Colour and availability
The HONOR 10 Lite smartphone comes in 4 colours – Sky Blue, Shiny Red, Sapphire Blue and Midnight Black. HONOR 10 Lite is selling for AED799.. It has already been released in the UAE. It is to be available in the retail outlets too. For further specifications, you check the Honor website
