Introduction – Kingston & the Renegade Legacy
Kingston Technology is an American multinational corporation that develops, manufactures, sells, and supports flash memory and other computer-related memory products.
Their “FURY” line represents the performance-driven segment built for gamers, creators, and power users who demand maximum hardware power.
The Kingston FURY “Renegade” series pushes storage beyond basic needs and offers extreme performance for heavy workloads.
It delivers fast load times, large storage capacity, smooth editing, and reliable rendering through a sleek M.2 design.
The new 8TB variant is not just another model. It shows Kingston’s intention to deliver speed, space, and endurance together.
Design and Specifications

The Kingston Fury Renegade G5 8TB SSD uses the familiar M.2 2280 form factor, which fits easily into modern desktops and premium laptops. Its double-sided layout highlights how much technology Kingston has included while maintaining maximum capacity without compromise. The drive uses a PCIe 5.0 x4 interface, which offers wider and faster bandwidth for next-generation systems.
Kingston pairs it with the Silicon Motion SM2508 controller, designed with 6nm efficiency to deliver performance while controlling heat. The controller stays very stable during heavy workloads.
Kingston uses 3D TLC NAND to ensure endurance and long-term reliability, which matters for creators transferring large files daily.
The low-power DDR4 DRAM helps the SSD maintain strong performance during long editing or rendering sessions. The 8TB capacity feels extremely liberating for professionals.
It allows storage of 4K and 8K footage, large project folders, open-world games, and software libraries on a single drive.
Kingston rates the drive at 14,800MB/s read speeds and 14,000MB/s write speeds, placing it among the fastest consumer SSDs available. With up to 8PBW endurance, the Renegade G5 8TB is built to last for years under demanding workloads. Its operating temperature range handles tough conditions, including the UAE summers, when used with proper airflow. The design focuses on stability, speed, and future-ready performance, showing Kingston’s expertise in storage engineering.
The Review

I received the Kingston Fury Renegade G5 8TB SSD for testing and review.
The SSD was tested on my desktop running the Asus ROG STRIX Z790-A Gaming WiFi-7 II motherboard with a 14th Gen Intel i7-14700K processor. My system also includes an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8GB graphics card.
I already use the Kingston FURY Renegade SSD 2000G (2TB), which I reviewed earlier.
My Z790 motherboard has only one PCIe 5.0 slot, which is occupied by the RTX 4060 Ti graphics card.
Therefore, I installed the Renegade G5 8TB SSD into an M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 slot. The SSD worked without issues due to backward compatibility.
The Installation and Process
The installation process was simple. I switched off the power and opened my desktop casing.
I removed the safety plate covering the M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 slots on the motherboard.
I inserted the 8TB SSD into the slot. After closing the casing, I powered on the system. It booted instantly because my primary drive is already a Kingston FURY Renegade 2TB SSD.
I opened Explorer, right-clicked “This PC,” and selected “Manage” to access the Microsoft Management Console.
I clicked “Storage” and then “Disk Management” to view the new unallocated 8TB drive. I decided to use the full 8TB as a secondary storage drive for my increasing content library. The New Simple Volume Wizard guided me through volume creation, size selection, and drive letter assignment.
I selected drive letter “D” for the new SSD. I chose the NTFS file system and added the label “Kingston Renegade.” After completing the setup, the D drive became ready within seconds with 7.45TB of usable space.
Performance & Speed
I benchmarked the Kingston Fury Renegade G5 8TB SSD across several tests.
On AS-SSD Benchmark, it delivered 5684.58MB/s write and 6032.77MB/s read speeds.
On ATTO Disk Benchmark 40.01, it achieved 6.61GB/s write and 6.63GB/s read speeds.
On CrystalDiskMark 8.0.1, it reached 7.034GB/s read and 6.962GB/s write speeds.
I will retest the drive using a new PCIe 5.0 adapter soon and share updated benchmark results.
During daily use, the drive performed extremely well, especially when copying large files.
I used the D drive for rendering tasks, and video rendering felt significantly faster than before.
