HONOR-Robot-Phone-and-Robotics-at-LEAP-2026
HONOR arrived at LEAP 2026 with an ambitious message: it no longer wants to be viewed only as a smartphone company. Its Riyadh showcase placed the Robot Phone, humanoid robotics and a connected AI ecosystem at the centre of that shift.
This was also a useful follow-up to the company’s pre-event promises. Visitors could see how the ALPHA PLAN might translate into devices and experiences, rather than remain a presentation built around future concepts.
However, several parts of the strategy are still developing. The displays showed direction and technical potential, but commercial availability, pricing and everyday reliability will ultimately decide whether these ideas move beyond the exhibition floor.
The Robot Phone takes centre stage
The most visible attraction was what HONOR describes as the world’s first Robot Phone. LEAP 2026 marked the device’s first public appearance outside its initial market and its debut for the Middle East and Africa.

Unlike a conventional smartphone camera, the concept uses an integrated robotic gimbal that can move and track subjects. HONOR says it can also respond to its surroundings, creating a more proactive form of mobile photography and video capture.
The idea is easy to understand at an exhibition. A phone that physically follows movement can make group videos, presentations and solo content easier to record. Yet the practical questions will matter just as much.
Buyers will eventually want to know how durable the moving parts are, how the mechanism affects weight and battery life, and whether applications can use it consistently. Those details were not the main focus of this LEAP demonstration.
ARRI collaboration adds a cinematic angle
HONOR also highlighted its collaboration with ARRI, a company with a long history in professional cinema technology and image science. The partnership connects HONOR’s mobile imaging work with established filmmaking expertise.
For users, the real value should appear in more natural colour, dependable exposure and smoother video—not simply in cinema-inspired filters. HONOR has not yet provided enough real-world material here to judge the final result, so this remains a development to watch.
Robotics expands the ALPHA PLAN
The Robot Phone was not the only moving device at the booth. HONOR Robotics D1 placed humanoid robotics alongside smartphones, tablets, PCs and wearables, reinforcing the company’s wider AI ambitions.

HONOR presented human and AI collaboration as the central theme. That framing is more useful than treating robotics as a competition with people. Still, demonstrations at a major technology event are controlled environments. Wider usefulness depends on safe operation, dependable software and clear tasks that solve real problems.
The company also discussed robotics and future AI devices through keynote and panel sessions. Together, these appearances helped position ALPHA PLAN as a multi-device strategy covering hardware, software and industry collaboration.
A connected booth rather than separate products
Across the booth, visitors explored scenarios covering sports, health, gaming, learning, office work and entertainment. The aim was to show smartphones, PCs, tablets and wearables working as parts of one system.

This connected approach is becoming common across the technology industry. The difference will come from execution: how quickly devices find each other, how smoothly data moves between them and how much control users retain over privacy and permissions.
HONOR links this evolution to technologies including Agentic OS and AiMAGE. In simple terms, the company wants devices to understand context, coordinate actions and reduce the number of manual steps required from the user.
That is a larger promise than adding individual AI tools to a smartphone. It also raises expectations for transparency. Users should know when an AI agent is acting, what information it can access and how to reverse an unwanted action.
“Dare to Be” gives the transition a new label
LEAP also introduced HONOR’s renewed “Dare to Be” brand direction. The phrase gives the company a simpler public identity for its move from individual products towards an open AI ecosystem.
Brand language can help explain a transition, but it does not prove one. HONOR now needs to connect that message with products people can buy, clear software support commitments and services that work across markets—including the Gulf region.
Why Saudi Arabia matters to HONOR
The choice of Riyadh was significant. Saudi Arabia is becoming a more important technology market, while LEAP offers brands access to government, enterprise, investor and consumer audiences in one location.
HONOR says its Middle East business grew 35% during the first half of 2026, despite a 13% decline across the regional smartphone market. The company also claims 73% year-on-year growth in the first quarter and says it became the Middle East’s second-largest smartphone brand.

These figures come from HONOR’s press materials and were not independently verified by CriticReviewer. They nevertheless explain why the company used LEAP to present a broader regional strategy, rather than treating the event as a single-product launch.
In Saudi Arabia, HONOR says the Kingdom is its leading tablet market by share. It also reports growth of more than 500% in its AIoT business and local sales above 100,000 units for HONOR Earbuds Clip.
The company plans to build on that momentum through retail, after-sales service, partnerships and further engagement with Saudi Arabia’s technology ecosystem. These less glamorous areas may prove more important than any stage demonstration because they shape long-term customer confidence.
CriticReviewer editorial view
HONOR’s LEAP 2026 presence offered a clearer picture of where the company wants to go. The Robot Phone provided the visual headline, while robotics and connected-device experiences gave the ALPHA PLAN more substance.
The next stage must focus on evidence. We need commercial timelines, supported markets, repair plans, software policies and real-world demonstrations outside controlled venues. Those details will show whether HONOR is creating a useful new category or an impressive technology showcase.
For Saudi Arabia and the wider Middle East, the event was still notable. HONOR chose Riyadh for the overseas debut of its Robot Phone concept and used the stage to underline the region’s role in its AI ecosystem ambitions.
