On 17th April 2019 – Oppo Middle East launched the Reno Series of smartphone for UAE market.
Under the Reno series, there are two variants of smartphones: – OPPO Reno 10x Zoom Edition and the Reno Edition.

Recently got the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom for review which is the flagship model of the Oppo series of smartphones. The main feature of the device is the 10x Hybrid zoom and 60x digital zoom.
Below are the details and review of the device.
Body & Specification
The OPPO Reno edition has a dimension of 162.0 x 77.2 x 9.3 mm and weighing 215gms and body is made of an Aluminum frame with front glass (Gorilla Glass 6) and with the shiny finish on the back panel. It has 6.6 inches’ notch-less Dynamic AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 1080 x 2340 pixels display and 19.5:9 ratio body. The notch-less full screen achieves a stunning 93.1% screen-to-body ratio, with no ports and no interference. The device display includes the Hidden Fingerprint Unlock 2.0 that reads the finger contours of your physical thumbprint.
The back panel has the triple cameras which are housed in a vertical design with safety bump to protect the cameras.
The rear (main) cameras – 48 MP (IMX586, f/1.7, 26mm (wide), 1/2.0″, 13 MP (telephoto periscope lens), f/3.0 and 8 MP, f/2.2, 16mm (ultra-wide).
The top side has the Pivot Rising Camera that hides the front camera, earpiece, and front and rear flashlights – Motorized pop-up 16 MP, f/2.0, 26mm (wide).
The right-hand side has the power button and on the left-hand side, it has the volume rockers and on the bottom side, we have the dual nano-SIM tray, the USB Type-C charging point and speaker grill.
The configuration of the OPPO Reno 10x Zoom Edition review unit has 8GB of RAM and 256 GB ROM (Storage space) and has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset with built-in GPU Adreno 640.
It has the latest Android Pie (9.0) for OS and OPPO’s own ColorOS V6.0 for User Interface. As for the connectivity, the device comes with Bluetooth 5.0, WLAN 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, NFC and VOOC 3.0 (USB Type-C)
The Review
The package of OPPO Reno 10x Zoom Edition smartphone is big and long compared to the size of the OPPO Reno Edtion smartphone. The striking feature is the rounded edges front full display with a shiny back panel.
The device which I have received for review is the Jet Black colour and OPPO Reno 10x Zoom Edition is also available in Ocean Green colour
The package also contains high-quality translucent casing to protect the phone from damages and add more grip while using the device and avoid finger smudges on the shiny back panel.
The OPPO Reno 10x Zoom Edition as design-wise is a classy, sleek-looking smartphone which can be used by any kind of consumer from corporate to a teenager. It has a full-screen display with pivot rising camera makes this smartphone unique design compared to the other smartphones available in the market.
OPPO’s Cameras
With the triple camera set up on the back panel, you can click a wide-angle photograph with 26mm lens, so now you can click a group of people from a distance or capture the panoramic view of the landscape. With Al feature in the camera, the camera app also includes a Scene Optimizer, HDR, Dual OIS, Artistic portrait mode, Ultra-Night Mode 2.0, Color Mapping and can shoot 4K videos.
The camera app has 5 presets, Wide Angle, 1x, 2x, 6x and 10x. Out of the 5 presets, till 6x the quality of the hybrid zoom was good but at 10x zoom and beyond the quality deteriorates. But again, it depends on the clear environment for zooming and also you need to have a very stable tripod to click on long distance.
In the daylight, the cameras performed very well but I was a little disappointed in the low light photography was average and had noise in the images.
In video mode, the camera performed very well at the 2 preset levels 1x and 2x in daylight but in a low light similar issue as mentioned above for photography. You can go up to 10x zoom with manual zoom and quality deteriorates a lot.
As for the front (selfie) camera, the single-lens performed very well and the Bokeh effect (F2.0 aperture) was good. The focus was quite fast and also has AI Beauty camera support and automatically suggest the exposure. The front camera is equipped with a soft light. When you take selfies in low-light conditions, it automatically adds light.
Also, the motorized pivot rising camera has its own protection if the smartphone is dropped, the pivot drops back into the device automatically protecting the camera but due to this function, the smartphone is not waterproof.
The OPPO Reno 10x Zoom Edition doesn’t have 3.5mm jack input and package unit comes with USB Type-C pin headphones. The quality of the headphones is good, the design similar to most of the flagship model smartphone is providing with their devices.
The built-in speaker of the phone is quite loud and good while playing the game.
Power and Performance
It has the latest Android Pie (9.0) for OS and OPPO’s own ColorOS V6.0 for User Interface. the new AI software on the OPPO Reno automatically optimizes battery, CPU, RAM, and even device temperature based on how you use your phone and continues to learn and get better over time. Leveraging AI-capabilities, OPPO Reno also learns how you use your device to launch your most frequently used apps faster.
With the 8GB RAM, latest Snapdragon 855 chipset with built-in Adreno 640 GPU, Android Pie, the performance was good and while testing on different benchmarks, it scored quite high.
I have tested the smartphone 3 different benchmarks a) AnTuTu – 356149 b) PCMark – 9502 c) 3Dmark – Sling Shot Extreme – Open GL ES 3.1 – 5746 & Sling Shot Extreme- Vulkan – 5019.
During the benchmark test, the smartphone temps average was 38.6 C degrees and under stress test, the CPU temperature shot up to 72.0 C degrees.
Thanks to the powerful chipset and RAM, there was no lag or jitters in the graphic rendering during the benchmark test or while playing games.
It comes with 4065 mAh battery which lasted more than a day on a single charge.
As for protection and access to the smartphone, OPPO Reno 10x zoom has a hidden fingerprint sensor on full-screen display along with the pattern and pin security access.
Gaming
The device was loaded with Asphalt Extreme game app and it performed very well and the temperature of the device maintain same, there was no lag in the graphics performance of the device.
Conclusion
OPPO’s Reno 10x zoom smartphone is much more enhanced and powerful compared to Oppo Reno edition smartphone. As it comes with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset with Adreno 640 GPU which makes the device best in the OPPO series of smartphone. OPPO’s Reno 10x zoom is a great device with 8GB RAM and 256 GB ROM/ Storage with Android 9 (Pie). With all the AR and AI effects and function, it is a very young, stylish and perfect companion for the teens, gamers, businessman and fashion-conscious people. The design and style are unique for all the genders to use. The full-screen display is unique compared to other smartphones and the Motorized pivot rising front selfie camera with front and rear flashlights make the smartphone unique. With the Android Pie and latest development in AI, the OPPO Reno has all best features like Bokeh, scene optimizer and latest beauty AI.
The 10x zoom smartphone is good for photography and that is up to 6x zoom and at 10x and beyond there was deterioration of quality of the image. The low light photography and video was average compared to other brands available in the market.
The smartphone is not waterproof but has 20W (VOOC Flash Charge) fast charging and with 4065mAh battery it lasted more than a day.
As for the music listeners, the device supports 24-bit, aptX HD, quality music and has Dolby Audio and with the Bluetooth 5.0, you can use your old and new Bluetooth headsets.
Personally, I prefer a wired connection for a better range of audio quality and headset provided with the package is good.
The built-in speaker of the phone is quite loud and good while playing the game.
