MG and (IEM) Inter Emirates Motors allowed me to test the all-new MG One Sub Compact SUV. The All New MG One was launched on 21st March 2023 at W Hotel in Palm Jumeriah. All New MG One is the latest vehicle with all the latest features in the Sub Compact SUV segment.
MG One comes with a 1.5L Turbo CVT Transmission engine which delivers 181horse power and max. torque of 285Nm
and the latest technological safety features. The SUV can do 0-100kmph in 8.8 secs. The Compact SUV can go up powering the vehicle to a top speed of 195 km/h. It has a seven-speed Continuously Variable Transmission for smoother, more efficient gear changes
As an all-in-one modular platform, it can house a range of all-electric, and hybrid powertrains, as well as regular internal combustion engines. This advanced electric architecture creates a smart car experience for MG’s new generation of vehicles.
Before that let us talk about the looks of the MG ONE Sub Compact SUV. The body of the SUV comes with a nice sleek design with great lines. The Front grill comes with a shiny black 3D-style design. There is a camera and sensor which is part of the 360-degree parking and view. The MG ONE has got a 3 BAR DRL LED Cluster for a headlight and side lights which are quite powerful at night. The same goes for the Tail lights.
The MG logo is present on the front and back hatch. The Side mirrors are electronically controlled and have a camera on each side. SUV comes with 19-inch Alloy wheels. It also comes with Twin Aero” Rear Spoiler, Panoramic Sunroof, an Electric Front seat,
Now! Let us see the inside of the SUV. The MG One comes with a black interior with Ventilated seats a Digital console & display, a Sporty steering Wheel and dual AC control with rear AC Vents for the passenger. The Rear 2 Seats can be changed to 3 seaters with the centre foldable armrest folded into the seat and by folding down the rear seats more you can create more luggage room in the SUV.
The MG One comes with a 30” Wrap around Triple Screen which includes a 12.3” touch screen which has all the information and infotainment. On the 12.3” touch screen, you can have access to a 360-degree Camera system which can be used for parking as well as during driving. The MG One comes with an Electronic Gear shifter which changes gears with ease. The SUV comes with a keyless entry remote, Push Button Start, and an electronic push parking button.
The seat comes with a six-way electric driver seat with lumbar support, four-way electric passenger seats, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto too. It has GPS navigation, as well as front, side and curtain airbags and Cruise control. Just below the dashboard, in the centre, you have a wireless mobile charger pad and just below the pad, you have USB Type-C and Type-A Charging ports. In the centre console, you get 2 cup holders with a shutter and an additional glove compartment between the front seat.
As for safety, the MG One comes with a standard Electronic Stability Program, these include automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. It also features a rigid body structure and advanced driver assistance systems to help prevent accidents. The MG ONE is equipped with an MG Pilot, an advanced driver-assisted technology that includes a complete suite of safety features. This system constantly scans the road ahead and around the vehicle to detect potential collisions with other vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, and even large animals, day, or night.
The MG One with a 1.5 Litre Turbo CVT engine was smooth to drive and the pick was very good. The engine felt so smooth that even at 135kmph on Abu Dhabi to Dubai road didn’t feel like an engine crying or struggling and the suspension was really great. Even on turns didn’t feel the rollovers. The engine is quite silent on the smooth increase of speed and, on sports mode, you feel and hear the engine roaring on quick acceleration. The sporty steering wheel stiffens up as the speed accelerated and giving more stability and control.
Even with 5 passengers seated the Subcompact SUV, didn’t feel dragged or slowed down on the city roads. The 360-degree camera system was a great help for parking and while using it for slow turns, i could the sides of the road and not hit the pavement or vehicles while exiting from a tight parking position. The audio system is powerful and good but lacks adequate low rumble of bass. The 12.3” touchscreen display was responsive and the apps responded excellently. You can control, the Dual AC fan speed and temperature, MG Pilot features, Cameras, Radio, Bluetooth Call, and music and it also includes User Manual for immediate access to MG One system.
The fuel average is excellent, on AED120 full tank and gets mileage of 523km.
Overall, the MG ONE is a great buy as a family vehicle with all the latest technology for safety and features. I would recommend consumers, who are looking for a great fuel average vehicle with excellent speed, great pick, comfortable ride and seating for 5 people.
