Sony WH-CH720N
Summary
Sony WH-CH720N wireless headphones offer impressive sound quality, comfort, and long battery life, making them a top choice for budget-conscious listeners in the UAE.
Introduction
Sony has led the audio industry for decades, consistently delivering exceptional listening experiences and pushing the boundaries of sound technology. From the iconic Walkman to the latest advancements in noise-cancelling technology, Sony continues to captivate music enthusiasts worldwide.
The WH series has been a key part of Sony’s headphone lineup for many years, and it is known for its balance of comfort, sound quality, and innovative features. While the exact timeline of the series remains unclear, the “WH” designation has long represented Sony’s over-ear wireless headphones.
This review explores the strengths and weaknesses of the Sony WH-CH720N, focusing on sound quality, comfort, connectivity, and microphone performance. Ultimately, it will help you decide if this budget-friendly headset deserves a spot in your personal audio system.

I’ve already reviewed many of Sony’s headphones, from flagship models to gaming headphones, and the WH-CH720N is a solid contender in the budget category.
Design and Build Quality

The WH-CH720N features a sleek, minimalist design with a predominantly white colour scheme that adds a touch of sophistication. The review unit I tested came in white, but the headphones are also available in black and blue. The ear cups have a clean white look and come with a headband made of a combination of steel and plastic, creating a modern aesthetic.
Sony designed the headphones using a mix of plastic and metal, giving them a premium feel despite their budget-friendly price. The WH-CH720N includes closed dynamic 30mm drivers, offering a frequency range of 7Hz–20,000Hz. It supports Bluetooth profiles like A2DP, AVRCP, HFP, and HSP, and it works with SBC and AAC audio formats. The headphones also include an ambient sound mode and weigh around 192 grams.
Comfort
Comfort is a top priority for long listening sessions, and the WH-CH720N excels in this area. The ear cups, padded with soft synthetic leather, feel gentle against the ears. The adjustable headband also includes a cushioned synthetic leather lining to minimize pressure on the top of the head.
At just 192 grams, the headphones are light enough to wear for extended periods without causing fatigue. During my long review sessions, I used them while lying in bed, and the lightweight design didn’t cause any discomfort. However, you might experience some sweating when using the headphones outdoors due to the synthetic leather ear cups.
Though Bluetooth connectivity eliminates tangled wires, Sony includes a 3.5mm jack for those who prefer a wired connection. The only downside I noticed was the stitching quality on the ear cups of the review unit. The headband stitching was clean, but the ear cups seemed less polished—perhaps a one-off issue with my unit, as Sony typically delivers flawless finishing.
Sound Quality

The WH-CH720N impresses with its sound quality. The 30mm drivers, integrated with Sony’s Processor V1 and Digital Sound Enhancement Engine (DSEE), deliver clear highs and mids, ensuring accurate reproduction of both dialogue and sound effects.
However, compared to the WH-1000XM5, the bass on the WH-CH720N is slightly less powerful. That said, the bass remains clean and satisfying, especially for this price range.

One of the standout features is Sony’s 360 Spatial Sound, which creates an immersive listening experience by adding depth and directionality to the audio. You can enjoy 360 Reality Audio by connecting to the 360 Reality Audio Live app. For an enhanced 360-degree surround sound experience, connect the headphones to a BRAVIA XR TV using the Sony | 360 Spatial Sound Personalizer app. If you own the Sony WLA-NS7 wireless transmitter with a BRAVIA XR TV, you can even enjoy Dolby Atmos sound.
The WH-CH720N doesn’t feature Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) but instead offers Digital Noise Cancellation (NC). This feature, powered by dual noise sensor technology and the Integrated Processor V1, effectively reduces ambient noise. You can customize the noise-cancellation levels through the Sony | Headphones Connect app, which allows for 20 different ambient sound adjustments.
The microphone performs well, too. I tested it during video calls on both my PC and smartphone and the sound was clear and crisp during Bluetooth calls as well.

Connectivity

The WH-CH720N uses Bluetooth 5.2, offering a stable and reliable connection with a range of up to 10 meters. I didn’t notice any lag or latency issues during my tests, ensuring smooth audio transmission.
For those who prefer a wired connection, the 3.5mm jack provides an alternative, particularly useful for gaming or direct audio connections.
Customization

With the Sony | Headphones Connect app, you can adjust the audio settings to suit your preferences. The app features an equalizer that lets you tweak the sound signature based on the type of music you’re listening to, ensuring a more personalized experience.
Battery Life
The WH-CH720N offers impressive battery life, lasting up to 35 hours with noise cancellation turned on and up to 50 hours with it off. Charging is easy with a USB Type-C cable, and the headphones take around 3.5 hours to reach a full charge.
Sustainability Packaging
Sony has been at the forefront of Sustainability and eco-friendly packaging and device parts which can be recycled. The WH_CH720N headphones are made of Recycled plastic. Also, no plastic is included in the individual packaging. These headphones reflect Sony’s commitment to reducing the environmental impact of our products and practices.
Price and Value
At AED 394, the Sony WH-CH720N represents excellent value for those looking for a budget-friendly audio solution. It’s available in white, black, and blue, and while it doesn’t include advanced features like head tracking, the sound quality, comfort, and overall performance make it a compelling option.
Conclusion

The Sony WH-CH720N is a strong contender in the budget-friendly headphone market, delivering high-quality sound and an immersive experience through 360 Spatial Sound. The lightweight design, low-latency wireless connection, and extended battery life make it ideal for long-term use.
While it doesn’t offer full Active Noise Cancellation or head tracking for spatial sound, its Digital Noise Cancellation feature, comfortable fit, and solid sound performance make it a great option. The bass is not as deep as Sony’s higher-end models like the WH-1000XM5, but it’s still clean and enjoyable.
