Sony WH-1000XM6 Wireless Headphones

Summary
The Sony WH-1000XM6 wireless/wired headphones offer best-in-class noise cancellation with 12 microphones and advanced ANC—perfect for music lovers, professionals, and gamers.
After two long years, Sony is back with the latest release of Flagship Headphones for music lovers—WH-1000XM6. Sony is a well-known brand in the technology industry. Since the first launch of Sony’s headphones and earbuds, the company has produced some of the best-quality headphones and earbuds, utilising the latest technology and quality standards. I have been fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to review most of Sony’s audio and visual products launched in the Middle East.

The launch event will be held in Dubai on June 3, 2025. The Sony WH-1000XM6 was officially introduced at La Table Du MusicHall, SLS Hotel & Residences, Business Bay, Dubai. It was a unique and immersive gastronomic experience accompanied by lovely live music. During the event, the Sony Middle East team showcased the Sony WH-1000XM6 headphones (I had the demo unit for a week for trial purposes).
I have been using the headphones for almost a month, and I use them daily for at least 1-2 hours, and sometimes for up to 4 hours.
Let us look at the Sony WH-1000XM6 in detail in the review below
Design & Specification
The Sony WH-1000XM6 Headphones (Unfolded): 190 mm (W) x 260 mm (H) x 80 mm (D), and (Folded in Case): 150 mm (W) × 100 mm (H) × 80 mm (D) weigh approximately 254 grams. The headphones come with a built-in battery (possibly 1200mAh). It can provide up to 30 hours (with ANC) on a single charge. Without ANC, the headphones can provide up to 40 hours of playback time. Regarding the charging time of the headphones, it takes approximately 3.5 hours for a full charge. With a quick 3-minute charge, the headphones can provide 3 hours of playback with ANC enabled. The headphone unit can be charged with a USB-C cable provided with the case.
Drivers & ANC

The Sony WH-1000XM6 headphones feature a 30 mm dynamic Neodymium driver unit that operates within a frequency range of 4 Hz to 40,000 Hz and a frequency response range of 20 Hz to 40,000 Hz (LDAC, 96 kHz sampling, 990 kbps). When wired with a cable, the headphone can provide a sensitivity of 103 dB/mW (when connected via the headphone cable with the unit turned on) and 102 dB/mW (when connected via the headphone cable with the unit turned off).
The Sony WH-1000XM6 are wireless noise-cancellation headphones that also feature a wired option. They are designed as closed-over-the-ear headphones.
Headphones Control
The headphones feature touch control on the ear cups, and a proximity sensor is located inside each ear cup, allowing you to play or stop music from the source. As for connectivity, it supports Bluetooth Version 5.334 and features pop-up pairing support, allowing for simultaneous connections with multiple devices.
The headphones support SBC, AAC, LDAC, and LC3 audio formats. It supports A2DP, AVRCP, HFP, HSP, TMAP, CSIP, MCP, VCP and CCP formats.
The Sony WH-1000XM6 headphones come in an eco-friendly box with a new magnetic case design. The headphones are folded into the case, and in a small compartment, you will find a USB—C charging cable, a 3.5mm wired cable for direct connection, a Quick start guide (including safety information), and a Warranty card.
The Review

The Sony WH-1000XM6 comes in a lightweight, hard-off-white recycled paper box, which is covered with eco-friendly paper featuring the Sony WH-1000XM6 image wrapped around the box. The packaging case has embossed text “1000X Series”

Once you open the box, you will find the fabric case. The new thing about the Sony case is that it has a zipper that opens and closes it. The new case has a magnetic lock system, making it easier to access the headphones. A mark style of the Sony start-up guide is also attached to the case handle.
Once you open the case, you will find the Sony WH-1000XM6 headphones folded with the ear cups facing downwards. The Sony WH-1000XM6, which we received, is available in matt black, and white is also available on the market. The device already has a charge, so you can connect it as soon as you remove it from the box. However, I would suggest charging the device fully before connecting it to your smartphone. The device can be connected instantly by bringing the earbuds near the smartphone, which has NFC switched on. A pop-up on the screen will then request that you pair the earbuds with your smartphone.
If you plan to connect the Sony WH-1000XM6 to another device, you can pair it with another device using the Headphone App on your phone.
Using with the Sony | Sound Connect App

I am already using the Sony Sound Connect app, available on the App Store or Google Play Store. It was a straightforward procedure for me: Switch on the phone’s Bluetooth. Bring the Sony WH-1000XM6 near the smartphone for pairing. Connect your smartphone with NFC switched on. The Sony WH-1000XM6, once paired, also appears in the Sony | Sound Connect app.

The application is compatible with all Sony devices, including the Sony headphones series and the Sony earbuds series. You can see the headphones/earbuds and charging case battery status, as well as the Adaptive Sound control and the music playing on the earbuds. You can see the two devices with which you are connected to your earbuds or headphones.
Sound Mode
Under the sound mode, you can choose from Noise Cancellation mode, ambient sound, or Normal. Under the System, you can connect to two devices simultaneously, on/off. You can use Google Voice Assistant for Android devices. You can also adjust the touch sensor functions and activate hand gesture movement.

There is an Equaliser setting that offers a suggested preset mode and allows you to create your equaliser setting manually. There is a Beta version of “Find your equaliser.” Here, you have to follow a simple procedure. The App shows various button types. You choose the preferred sound quality and create the equaliser setting. This is a good option for listeners who don’t understand the Equaliser bar adjustment.
For the 360 Reality Audio Setup, you can analyse your ear shape by taking a photo of your ear and following the app’s instructions. Under the service mode, you can activate third-party apps, such as Spotify.
Audio
Sony WH-1000XM6 speaker unit

The speaker’s design is in the shape of an oval, accommodating all ear types, and features 30mm drivers that provide a frequency response of 4 Hz to 40,000 Hz (JEITA). The top side of the headphone features a matte black finish with touch sensor functions. The inside of the ear cups features an in-ear sensor that enables the earbuds to play or pause music. Each earbud houses twelve microphones.
The ear cups feature soft, comfortable PU material ear cup rings that provide a closed fit over the entire ear, helping to create more effective noise cancellation for the headphones. With a single full charge, you can enjoy 30 hours of music playback. In 3.5 hours, you can fully charge a battery.

The Sony WH-1000XM6 headphones do not mention any specific IP rating, so I am unsure about splash resistance. However, regarding drop resistance, no mention is made. Nevertheless, I dropped the device by mistake from a height of around 4 feet with my hand, and nothing happened. I would not suggest trying out this kind of testing on your own.
Sony WH-1000XM6 headphones – Hardware details

The earcups’ diaphragm structure combines multiple materials for the dome and edge, resulting in low distortion and clear sound quality. This is possible with the HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN3, which is 7 times faster than the QN1, used in the WH-1000XM5 headphones. The WF-1000XM6 headphones support 24-bit audio processing and high-performance analogue amplification, resulting in low distortion and crystal-clear audio reproduction. It utilises Bluetooth 5.3, offering an effective range of 10 meters and operating in the 24 GHz band.
Sony WH-1000XM6 headphones – Hi-RES Audio details

The earbuds support Hi-Res Audio, made possible by LDAC, Sony’s proprietary audio coding technology. LDAC can transmit approximately three times more data than conventional Bluetooth audio, providing exceptional High-Resolution Audio quality that is closer than ever to a studio recording. It supports Sony’s head tracking, an excellent feature for movie buffs.
Audio Quality
The Sony WH-1000XM6 was tested for hours on various genres of music, including country, jazz, rock, R&B, soul, metal, lounge, techno, house, classical, and Bollywood. The test was conducted using Hi-res quality 24-bit 96 kHz and 320 kbps MP3 music, as well as multiple movies.

As I am quite picky about music and devices, being an audiophile myself, I made sure to test them for hours while working on my articles, as I am doing right now, using the device while writing this review.
From small nooks to perfect rumbling sounds of the bass, it sounded perfect, and I could feel the different ranges of audio equipment used in the song, which included guitar, snares, string pulls, vocal breathing, and the distant chirping of birds in the lounge music. Even while watching movies, I could hear the long-distance boom and crackling of fire sounds. Especially when I put the earbuds to ANC mode, I was isolated from my surroundings at home and felt part of the movie scene. There was a scene where an insect sound was in the distance, and I could feel it hovering behind my ear. With 12 microphones, it provided real-time superior noise cancellation even with loud music playing at close distance from me.
Best Audio Quality

I usually don’t compare to other brands. Still, I must say that, compared to another brand in a similar price range, the Sony WH-1000XM6 headphones’ sound quality, depth of music, and especially the very low bass, were clearer (headphone setting kept at normal with equaliser off). The quality of the Treble, mid-range, and bass was obvious and superior to that of other brands.
Video & Audio Call

For call testing, I used Google Meet and BOTIM, and the voice was clear; however, the sound was slightly suppressed, especially in the treble range. However, both ways of listening and speaking were clear. Calls were clearer while using it in a noisy environment. With 12 microphones in real time for superior noise cancellation, sound quality, and call clarity. With more microphones than ever, we can precisely detect external noise and counteract it with opposite sound waves, delivering a new level of noise cancellation.
Price and Availability

The Sony WH-1000XM6 Wireless Headphones launch price is AED 1,699 and are available in two colours: Black and white. They are available on the Sony Website, e-commerce sites, and major retail outlets.
Conclusion

The Sony WH-1000XM6 Headphones are recommended for anyone who loves music and wants to own comfortable headphones with excellent sound quality. With 30 hours of playtime on a single charge, it’s perfect for travelling without worrying about battery drainage, and the ANC is amazing. It supports Hi-Res audio and 24-bit audio, with a dedicated setting available under the Sony | Sound Connect app for the headphones. You can connect with 2 Devices simultaneously. The new carry case, featuring a magnetic locking system instead of the old zipper lock, is a significant improvement for consumers.
The sound quality and audio frequency are detailed, and I can recommend this for audiophile listeners who prefer to travel wirelessly or with a wired connection. The headphones come with Bluetooth 5.3 version and a wired option. With 12 microphones, they provide the best noise cancellation, which I consider the best current headphones available for consumers.
(Please note: When I say this device is perfect for Audiophile listeners, it is ideal for compact carry and listening wirelessly or wired, with ANC Mode ON/OFF.)
