History of the LG Display & Monitors
LG Display was originally formed as a joint venture by the Korean electronics company LG Electronics and the Dutch company Philips in 1999 to manufacture active matrix liquid crystal displays (LCDs) and was formerly known as LG.Philips but Philips sold off all its shares in late 2008. Both companies also had another joint venture, called LG.Philips Displays, dedicated to manufacturing cathode ray tubes, deflection yokes, and related materials such as glass and phosphors.
They are one of the main licensed manufacturers of the more colour-accurate IPS panels used by Dell, NEC, ASUS, Apple (including iMacs, iPads, iPhones, and iPod Touches) and others, which were developed by Hitachi. On 11th June 2019, LG launched their 1st IPS 1ms gaming monitor. The LG Ultragear 27GR95QE was released on January 2023 and comes with 1440p resolution with a 240Hz refresh rate. This makes the monitor unique in the gaming category.

The Review
Built-Quality

The LG Ultragear 27GR95QE gaming monitor is built strong, robust and stylish with LED light on the back. So need to hide the backside. The OLED panel comes treated with Anti-Glare, Low-Reflection of the front polarizer. So even I have using it during the day with the sunlight hitting the screen, there was no reflection or any kind of glare on the screen which made me love this monitor. As the monitor is colour corrected. It helped me to do colour correction on image editing software. While video editing on 27” size and 2560 x 1440px resolution, it helps me to better clarity, and better actual colour viewing. The most important point is, there was no strain or tiredness on my eyes.
Body

The bezel of the monitor is quite slim and has a thickness of 0.1. Due to the VESA mount and all the electronics, it has an extra bulging back which also houses the RGB LED Lighting the thickness is 1.9”. There are also heat vents for cooling down the monitor.

The LG Ultragear 27GR95QE monitor has decent ergonomics. You can adjust it in any way, but the swivel range is limited, and you can only rotate it into portrait mode counterclockwise, meaning the inputs will always be on the right side of the monitor. Luckily, there’s a clip on the stand for cable management to keep your setup clean. Other than the Metal stand the whole body of the monitor is plastic but very sturdy and does not flex.
VESA Stand

LG Ultragear 27GR95QE come with a Metal stand with a very stable “V” angle base makes it very tough. The Stand comes with a separate base which has to be attached once removed from the package. The VESA mount has a one-sided 180-degree rotation which helps to make the monitor change from landscape mode to vertical mode. The VESA mount also has a tilt angle of -10° to 10°.
The V-shaped stand doesn’t take up a lot of space either, so if you want to set up a pair of these side by side, it won’t look too bad. I like the ergonomics of the LG. It tilts forwards and backwards in all directions and can be raised high from 18 to 22 inches.
LG Remote
The LG Ultragear 27GR95QE monitor has a remote to control the on-screen display, which is easier to use than traditional joysticks or buttons on monitors. There’s a power button underneath the centre of the monitor that also features RGB lighting next to it.
Performance

The LG Ultragear 27GR95QE gaming monitor was reviewed as an add-on monitor for video editing and an additional display. I have used the monitor for a little gaming purpose but of course, could not use the full potential of the 240Hz monitor. As it supports AMD FreeSync Premium and NVIDIA G-Sync, so if you have a gaming console, gaming laptop or gaming Desktop with the above features, you will unleash the full potential of the monitor.
This monitor doesn’t have any compatibility issues with the Xbox Series X|S or PlayStation PS5, thanks to its HDMI 2.1 bandwidth. It even downscales 4k games, which results in a sharper image than a native 1440p signal. The console works without issue when playing lower frame-rate games, like at 60 or even 30 fps.
Small Issue
There are small problems when it came to reading small text on the monitor which I found the reason was RWBG subpixel layout, as computer programs don’t render text properly with this layout. This results in some colour fringing around text, and while it isn’t the worst case of colour fringing, it can be distracting if you’re sitting close and you notice text clarity issues easier. The matte screen finish also makes the text look a bit hazy.
Enabling Windows ClearType can help improve the text clarity, but it can introduce some of the colour fringing. This means you either have to choose between sharper text with colour fringing or worse text clarity without the fringing.

Testing
The contrast ratio is amazing as the display is OLED, so you get rich Black and White. The LG Ultragear 27GR95QE monitor has perfect black uniformity without any blooming around bright objects. The grey uniformity is great. The edges are a bit darker than the rest of the screen, but there’s minimal dirty screen effect in the centre. Like any OLED screen, there are thin vertical lines in near-dark scenes, but they’re hard to notice unless you’re looking for them.
Connectivity

The LG Ultragear 27GR95QE comes with a Display port, 3 HDMI 2.1 Ports, 2 USB-B ports, Optical Digital Audio Out and DC In port. The 3.5mm audio output serves as a combo jack with audio out and mic in, but you need to have the USB-B cable connected to your computer to fully use it. It also supports DTS and DTS:X audio pass-through for headphones that support it. Unlike many monitors, it has an Optical Audio output to connect to soundbars or speakers with this connection, but it doesn’t support DTS/DTS:X audio past through. There are three modes for this: Sports, Entertainment, and Game.

Conclusion
The LG Ultragear 27GR95QE monitor is a great buy for gamers, Photo and Video Editors. The OLED panel gives the best contrast ratio. For the intense gamers who require top-of-the-range quality and 240Hz refresh rate, this monitor would be the perfect choice with a 27inches size. With the support of AMD FreeSync Premium and NVIDIA G-Sync, you connect with an external GPU and get the best result. The OLED panel comes treated with Anti-Glare, Low-Reflection of the front polarizer.
The LG Ultragear 27GR95QE monitor is a little on the expensive side but whoever needs the best will not sacrifice the quality.
