Lenovo is a known brand across the globe for providing the latest laptop design and devices for the technology-inclined audience. In the 1st quarter of 2022, Lenovo had a market share of 25.2% of global PC shipments. Lenovo has 22.0% of the PC Market Vendor share in the Middle East.
Lenovo’s PR agency has sent the latest ThinkPad Z13 laptop for review. I had the chance to review the unit for 2 weeks.
The Review
The Lenovo ThinkPad Z13 laptop comes in eco-friendly packaging. It is the packaging is a brown corrugated box with 2 colour prints. Even the handle of the box is made of 100% rapid-renewable and compostable bamboo-sugarcane fibre. Inside the box, you will find the Lenovo ThinkPad Z13 laptop with a USB Type-C charging cable and adapter with a G-Type plug which is required in this part of the world.
Body & Specification
The Lenovo ThinkPad Z13 comes with dimensions of 44.45 x 27.94 x 7.62 cm and weighs 2.72 kilograms. The laptop comes with a 13.3inches WQXGA OLED touch-screen display. The body chassis is made of MIL-STD 810H standard material, has a Bronze finish on the side, and comes with Black Recycled PET Vegan Leather covering on the top.
The vegan leather cover has the “Lenovo” logo embossed on the bottom right side in a vertical position. The word “Thinkpad” is embossed on the top left side at an angle which also houses a small red dot led light.
The ThinkPad Z13 laptop features a spacious all-glass touchpad that uses haptic feedback to respond to your clicks.
The laptop comes with a USB Type C 4 power pin on the left side of the laptop. You get a Headphone/mic combo, a power button and a USB Type C 4 pin for data transfer on the right side.
There is also SIM Card Tray for unlimited data connectivity without the requirement of Wi-Fi connectivity or using a Hotspot via smartphone.
Software & Hardware
The ThinkPad Z13 laptop comes with Windows 11 Pro trial version and runs on AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 6850U with Radeon graphics. It comes with 16GB DDR5 RAM and has a 512GB SSD for storage. Currently, the laptop has one single space location as C Drive but customers can configure the drive allocation into 2 drives or more as per their requirement.
The laptop comes with a Wi-Fi 6E module (Qualcomm WCN685x) and we could easily connect to the 6 GHz network but currently have a 5GHz network. In addition to an eSIM, a nano-SIM card can also be inserted on the right edge. The laptop comes with Dolby Atmos Speaker System and Dolby Voice and comes with an Infrared FHD camera f2.0, with eShutter with 65 Watt charging and a Low Blue Light filter.
The laptop had to be updated under the Windows setting which contained multiple updates from Lenovo, Windows, Windows Defender and hardware support.
The laptop comes with a keyboard with backlighting and the trademark design of ThinkPad “TrackPoint” red button in the centre between the G, H and B keys which can be used as the mouse and also double-tap to launch the Communications Quick Menu settings to optimize audio-visuals. There’s even a Dictation Toolbar for handy speech-to-text transcription.
The keyboard has a fingerprint button between the right control key and the left arrow key buttons. It has a fingerprint design printed on the key button for the user to identify. The laptop has multiple security for the users: face recognition, fingerprint sensor and pin verification. All ThinkPad laptops include ThinkShield, a suite of security solutions engineered to safeguard your business. The Z13 laptop also has ground-breaking chip-to-cloud technology with Microsoft Pluton, resulting from a partnership between AMD and Microsoft—working in conjunction with data encryption and biometrics. Plus, an electronic shutter controlled by the F9 key ensures the camera stays off.
The laptop lid has the centre little raised which houses the webcam with face detection and a dual microphone which is protruding just above the screen. This also helps the user to easily lift the cover from the closed laptop. This design allowed Lenovo to decrease the bezel around the rest of the Z13’s display.
Who should be buying this laptop?
The Lenovo ThinkPad Z13 laptop is compact, small and easy to carry in your backpack, laptop bag or even ladies’ medium size carry bag. The charging adapter and cable are also quite compact and light and easy to carry when you are travelling.
The bronze finish and vegan leather on the cover with body chassis are made of MIL-STD 810H standard material, long battery life and styling of the laptop make it perfect for business executives and higher levels on the corporate ladder. The laptop comes with Dolby Atmos Speaker System and Dolby Voice. The laptop is quite powerful with AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 6850U with Radeon graphics with 16GB DDR5 RAM and a 512GB SSD for storage. With the latest security features, it is perfect for someone who would want a stylish but secure feature for business or personal use.
Verdict
The Lenovo ThinkPad Z13 laptop is a great laptop for people who want a compact 13.3-inch WQXGA OLED touch-screen display with Wi-Fi 6 network with security features for business and personal use.
The laptop comes with Dolby Atmos Speaker System and Dolby Voice and comes with an Infrared FHD camera f2.0, with eShutter with 65 Watt charging and a Low Blue Light filter. The laptop price in UAE on Amazon.ae is AED6895.
