On March 11th 2022, Huawei announced the launch of its Devialet co-engineered the first portable speaker in the UAE – the HUAWEI Sound Joy portable speaker.
Huawei has been at the forefront of the seamless collaboration of technological products. From smartphones, laptops, smart displays, smart printing, earphones, headphones and now portable speakers.
The vision is to create a seamless network of products that tech enthusiasts would require for working from home or at the workplace. Keeping the smartphone is in the centre of all the devices and you can connect, transfer and play music seamlessly on all the Huawei products.
I have received the Huawei Sound Joy from its PR agency of Huawei for the testing and review of the product
Specs and Details
The Huawei Sound Joy comes with a dimension of 202mm (H) X 73mm (W) and weighs around 680grams. It has an 8800 mAh battery with 3 Mics and uses Bluetooth 5.2 which is the best connectivity for long-range play. It has NFC for one-touch transfer. The speaker comes with a diameter of 20 W 50 mm x 75 mm racetrack-shaped full range speaker. This includes 1 10 W 19 mm tweeter and 2 passive radiators.
The speaker supports 5V/2A, 9V/2A, and 10V/4A charging. It works on HUAWEI AI Life APP supports HarmonyOS 2 (or later) and Android 5.1 (or later). The speaker supports AAC and SBC codecs.
The product is IP67 rated, so the device is protected from dust and water splashes.
The Huawei Sound Joy comes with a Power key, Voice key, Play/Pause key, Bluetooth key, Stereo key and Volume +/-. The device has beautiful multicolour ring light on one side which indicates guides connection setup, status indications, music effects, etc.
The Review
The Huawei Sound Joy portable Bluetooth speaker comes in a white box with the 4 colour image of the device with the Huawei logo, Devialet logo and Harmony OS mentioned on the front. The backside of the box has basic instructions with highlighted features of the Huawei Sound Joy.
Once you open the box from the top side, you will find the small box which contains the USB-A to USB-C Charging Cable, Quick Start Guide and Warranty Card.
Below the box, you will find the Spruce Green Huawei Sound Joy, a portable Bluetooth speaker. The Huawei Sound Joy portable Bluetooth speaker is a cylindrical shape, made out of ABS plastic with soft silicone rubber covering and woven fabric surrounding the device. On the top and bottom, you have the Devialet logo printed on dual passive radiators which provides the low-frequency bass effect. The tweeter and woofer are placed in the centre of the cylindrical device. The device is co-engineered with Devialet, which is a very well known French audio technology company.
The Huawei Sound Joy is designed to easily carry and even if the diameter is such, you can attach it to the water bottle carrier on the bicycle or similar holder. You can also carry the device with the help of a handy strap which is matching to colour of the device.
When the Huawei Sound Joy is kept vertically. The Multicolored LED ring is facing upwards and creates a beautiful light ambience in a low lit room. The LED ring effect works along with the beat of the music, status indications and a lot more. To disable the LED light, press and hold the pause button for 3 seconds.
The control buttons: Power key, Voice key, Play/Pause key, Bluetooth key, Stereo key and Volume +/- comes with light indication, so you can see it even in the dark. The Volume +/- buttons are quite big and can easily see from far away on the device. It also has a USB Type -C Charging pin.
There are two silicone rubber studs on the side, so you can keep the speaker horizontally and this will avoid rolling. The horizontal position would come in handy especially when you pair the Huawei Sound Joy with an additional similar speaker making them into a stereo mode (Left and right channel).
The pairing of the 2 huawei Sound Joy speakers can be done by pressing the stereo key on the device or by shaking the device which promotes pairing mode and will connect to the other speaker. The other speaker would require time and within 5 minutes to link up the stereo system The speakers have to be within a distance of 3meters for pairing and with this, the devices get converted into stereo with left and right channel speakers. Only 2 speakers can be paired at a time.
The Huawei Sound Joy comes with an 8800mAh battery which can last for 26 hours on a single charge. I have tested the speaker for continuous 10hours music play and had no issues with power. The device support 40Watt charging and is compatible with 5V/2A, 9V/2A, and 10V/4A.
The Huawei Sound Joy is splash-proof, water-resistant and dust-proof for typical usage. It has an IP67 rating under IEC 60529 standards. That means, the device is splash, water and dust resistant and is not permanent and the protection effectiveness may deteriorate due to daily wear and tear. If the device is submerged in water up to 1meter in clear water and the water temperature is not more than 5 degrees Celsius, the device can still work after it dried and especially, the charging should not be done with the device and the charging pin is still wet or has water droplets in the charging pin.
Sound Quality
When I received the Huawei Sound Joy portable speaker, my impression was just another portable speaker to review. When I saw the word written co-engineered with Devialet, it got me curious to check.
From the bootup sound of the speaker and connecting to my Huawei P50 Pro smartphone, it was a very seamless process. I got a prompt for pairing as soon as I got the smartphone near the NFC icon on the speaker.

The sound of pairing with quite a low bass sound was a piece of music to my ear. Once connected to my smartphone, I tried all the different genres of music which is from Classical English to Hindi, Bollywood, Hip Hop, Rock, Trance, techno, House and some jazz music.
“And I would like to say this is the best portable Bluetooth speaker I have reviewed so far in 2022. I have similar other brand Bluetooth speakers with me which I have reviewed in the past but the size and range of frequencies of Treble, Mids. and Bass was really awesome to hear. “
The loudness of the small portable speaker is quite loud and without distortion of the low rubbles of bass. In a closed room of 400sqft, the sound travelled filling up the room with music. Outside, in a close proximately listeners, it would be perfect companying for outdoor picnics and get-togethers.
Recommendation
The Huawei Sound Joy is recommended for all ages who would like to have a small, stylish, compact and easy to carry portable speaker to listen to their favourite music. For the teens, the perfect product to carry in the bag for parties and picnics and size meets perfectly to use in their bicycle bottle holder.
For the salespeople, who make video presentations with music and always find inefficient loudness of the laptop speaker. This would be a great help for them as they can wireless connect to the laptop and play it loud with a good range of sound.
The device would be also a great travelling companion as it is bottle size and weighs only 680grams and easily fit in the bag pack with 26 hours of playtime.

The Huawei Sound Joy can be connected or auto-discovered by Huawei phones, tablets running with HarmonyOS2 or later. PC models supporting auto-discovery include HUAWEI MateBook D 16 (AMD), HUAWEI MateBook 13 2021, HUAWEI MateBook 14 2021, and HUAWEI MateBook X Pro 2021. You can tap your HUAWEI WATCH GT 2 Pro, HUAWEI WATCH 3, and HUAWEI WATCH GT 3 to transfer music to the speaker. HUAWEI WATCH 3 supports playback and control of Huawei phones (EMUI 12 or above) so as to control the speaker.
Verdict
The Huawei Sound Joy is a perfect small, stylish, compact and easy to carry portable speaker. The sound frequencies of Treble, Mids and Bass are quite good for the size. The device connected seamlessly with the smartphone and volume +/- controls is quite big and easy to access on the speaker. The Ring LED multicoloured light works along with the beat of the music and creates a nice ambience in a low lit room. The woofer with passive radiators enhances and provides a great low-frequency bass effect. Thanks to co-engineering with Devialet SAM technology, the HUAWEI Sound Joy delivers an authentic audio experience with minimal distortion.
