The HONOR Magic series symbolizes the brand’s confident shift from affordable smartphones to true flagships. These are built around a refined design. They also showcase AI innovation and offer consistent performance.
Since the first Magic model, I have observed HONOR focus on futuristic aesthetics. They deliver practical features that matter in everyday use.
Each generation brought meaningful upgrades. These upgrades included brighter OLED displays and stronger chipsets. Smarter camera systems were also part of the improvements. Additionally, the software was tuned for productivity and long-term reliability.
What stands out to me is how the Magic lineup became HONOR’s platform. It is used for testing AI imaging and battery optimization. It also allows for seamless ecosystem integration across devices.

My Experience
I got the device for review a few days before Christmas and the New Year. This was a great time to review the device. I clicked images and tested them indoors and outdoors. I also tested it in daylight and at night.
Main Camera

The HONOR Magic8 Pro comes with Quad cameras which consist of 200MP Ultra Night Telephoto Camera (f/2.6, 1/1.4′, 3.7X optical zoom, OIS), 50MP Ultra Night Main Camera (f/1.6, 1/1.3′, OIS, 4-in-1 2.4μm large pixel output) and 50MP Ultra Wide Camera (f/2.0, 122° wide angle, 2.5cm HD Macro Photography).
Indoor camera shot
My wife used the Magic8 Pro to capture some nice images of the food, tea. Plants and flowers in our enclosed patio. Which can provide excellent image quality. Many of the images were not shot in low lighting. The camera’s AI readjusted and provided a brighter and more contrasted image. You check the smoothie glass or the cut boiled eggs, you can see the texture part too.
Night outdoor shots
I used the smartphone during the barbecue party at my house. I captured the roasting of meat and fish with different exposure settings. The burning coal and flickering flames was captured beautifully by the Magic8 Pro.
The best outdoor testing of the HONOR Magic8 Pro
The testing occurred during an overnight stay in the LIWA desert. It was a 325 km drive from Dubai, and we returned the next day. The late afternoon timing was perfect. We were able to capture the desert, roads, sun, and nature from a moving car. We still get sharp images.
Once we reached our designation, I was able to capture the beautiful desert and the clear sky. I captured the moon in different apertures and settings using the Pro mode. The basic photo and portrait mode clicked well but was self lighting up the face and background thanks to AI.
LIWA Festival shots from far away

Around 9:00pm, the LIWA Festival fireworks were seen, and the drone show began. I tried to use the photo mode. Still, because of the distance from our location, the images were not sharp enough. The exposure was captured like light painting. So, I used Pro mode and captured images by controlling ISO and aperture.
Photography in Moon light
There are some shots that I took in total darkness. I captured them only with moonlight. The red desert gave a feel of being on the Martian planet. I clicked our camp from distance and output was amazing. Clicked few shots of my friend, my wife and camp fire and barbecue. There are some shots I clicked of my wife sitting in my car with Bonbon (Doggy). You can see the colour correction done by the camera and AI.
Next day, we clicked a few shots of the desert. We stopped at the LIWA festival. We captured the powerful SUV climbing the deserts.
Front / Selfie Camera

The 50MP Front Camera (f/2.0) + 3D Depth Camera worked beautifully, and images were vibrant, and colour corrected thanks to the AI in the phone. Even while in the moving car, we got good shots. We tried some night shots. The 3D depth camera adjusted the focus and light. It provided a clear sharp photo with a nice background of the desert.

Overall the camera performance was excellent especially in the dark and low light shots. Thanks to the quality of the lens and AI, the output was really great. The only drawback noticed was that the focus sensor was not accurate in the dark. It required some light to set up the focus on the face.
Please note: All the above images are clicked handheld. With a stable tripod stand, I would have captured sharper and better images.
Flagship Hardware and configuration

The HONOR Magic8 Pro comes with the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 mobile platform with GPU Adreno 840. Which provides the smoothest experience with the latest Android 16 with Magic OS 10 for UI. There was no lag or delay between the applications. I switch from the camera application to any other application in less than a second.
Benchmark Result

There was a restriction while doing the benchmark testing, and I could do some tests which worked on the phone. Geekbench 6 – Single-core score – 3648 & Multi-core score – 9748. PCMark Benchmark – Work 3.0 – 22295.
