Samsung has been forefront as one of the smartphone manufacturers around the globe. From time to time, the brand has been releasing the latest smartphone for different genres of consumers. From the flagship model to budget phones, the brand has been providing the latest innovation in the field of smartphone devices. Samsung Gulf launched the Samsung Galaxy A73 smartphone for the UAE market on 3rd June 2022. We were provided with the device for review.
Design and Specifications
The Samsung Galaxy A73 smartphone comes with a dimension of 163.7 x 76.1 x 7.6mm and weighs 181grams. The phone design is similar to the S22 series of phones and has a slim body with a 169.5mm size display with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 (FHD+). The display on the phone is Super AMOLED Plus with 20:9 ratios (~393 PPI density). The display comes with 16M Color Depth with ~87.0% screen-to-body ratio. The display screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5.
The phone comes with the latest Android 12 with One UI 4.1. The phone is powered by Qualcomm SM7325 Snapdragon 778G 5G (6 nm) chipset with Adreno 642L. The phone comes with 256 GB of storage and 8 GB of RAM. The device comes with quad cameras – 108 MP, f/1.8, (wide), PDAF, OIS – 12 MP, f/2.2, (ultra wide) – 5 MP, f/2.4, (macro) – 5 MP, f/2.4, (depth) and LED flash. It has a front/selfie camera which has a single 32 MP, f/2.2, 26mm (wide), 1/2.8″, 0.8µm.
The left side of the device is clean, while the right side has the volume rockers and the power button. On the top side you get a noise-cancelling microphone and a dual SIM slot, while on the bottom, you get the USB Type-C port, a speaker grille, and a secondary noise-cancelling microphone.
The Review
Samsung Galaxy A73 (5G) smartphone was sent to me just before the launch and I have reviewed it for more than 3 weeks. As per the new sleek packaging of Samsung smartphones, it came in a white glossy box with the image of the phone on the cover with “Galaxy A73 5G”. On the side bottom, the details of the phone are mentioned with colour type “Awesome White”, RAM, ROM, make and model no.
Once you open the box, the smartphone is packed in one colour black plastic cover, below the phone, you will find the white packet which has the SIM Ejector tool and USB Type-C to Type-C cable. Samsung has stopped providing the adaptor along the phone and consumers are expected to use their old adaptor or buy a new one from the Samsung Store. Please note: you need a compatible powerful adapter with a USB Type-C pin or the phone doesn’t charge.
The smartphone body is made of ABD plastic with a side frame with a metal shiny finish. The front display is a Super AMOLED Plus screen with 1080 x 2400 (FHD+) protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The back panel is luscious white in colour with the jutting out main camera unit on the top left side corner. The main three cameras – 108 MP, 12 MP and 5 MP are positioned vertically with one 5 MP camera and LED Flashlight on the side of the three cameras. The single 32 MP front/selfie camera is embedded in the top centre of the display.
The phone is powered by Qualcomm SM7325 Snapdragon 778G 5G (6 nm) chipset with Adreno 642L. Regarding software, the A73 runs on the Android 12 operating system with One UI 4.1 running on top of it. Samsung is also promising 4 major Android OS updates and 5 years of security patches for the Galaxy A73, which is great news for the consumer. The device comes with RAM Plus which means consumers can add more RAM from ROM (storage). It is advisable not to exceed the existing RAM size from the storage.
Cameras
The Samsung Galaxy A73 (5G) smartphone has quad cameras which are good for the price range. The main cameras consist of 108 MP, 12 MP, 5MP, 5 MP and LED Flashlight. The camera app has got photo mode, Portrait mode, video mode, Fun mode and more options which as Pro mode, Pro Video mode, Single Take mode, Night mode, food mode, panorama mode, macro mode, super Slow-Mo mode, and hyper-lapse mode. It also has Bixby vision and AR zone.
The main cameras can shoot 4K@30fps, 1080p@30/60fps and have gyro-EIS and shoot HDR quality videos.
The image output of the cameras in the photo mode and portrait mode was excellent. The zoom function from 1x to 2x images was sharp. Under photo mode, the zoom function has up to 10x digital zoom but the image distorts in the digital zoom which happened even during daylight.
Under the portrait mode, the Bokeh effect was perfect giving natural depth of field and sharpness on the forefront image was crisp and clear.
The Fun mode has various lens effects which are perfect for vloggers and content creators. As mentioned Fun mode could be hilarious and fun.
The 32 MP selfie camera clicked quite sharp and crisp images. It has option 1x and wide-angle for selfies. The front camera can shoot videos at 4K@30fps, 1080p@30fp and shoot HDR quality videos.
Audio & other features
The Samsung Galaxy A73 (5G) smartphone comes with a single speaker which has the speaker grille on the bottom of the device. The device has a dual mic which is present on the top and bottom of the smartphone. The SIM card tray is on the top of the device. The device comes with NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/6, dual-band, Wi-Fi Direct, hotspot, GPS and USB Type-C 2.0. The phone comes with a massive non-removable Li-Po 5000 mAh which lasted more than 1.5 days.
Benchmark
The Samsung Galaxy A73 (5G) smartphone was tested on various Benchmark apps. The device got a 3DMark benchmark result on Wild Life – 2494, under Wild Life Extreme scored 692 and Slingshot – 6331. Under PCMark benchmark scored 12301. The GFX benchmark score is Aztec Ruins OpenGL (High Tier) 1260 Frames (20Fps), 4K Aztec Ruins OpenGL (High Tier) off-screen 380.7 frames (5.9 Fps). Overall Review
The Samsung Galaxy A73 (5G) smartphone is great a device for the look, styling, features and price. The phone has 8GB RAM with RAM Plus feature and 256GB ROM (storage) which is good for anything good mobile. The phone cameras are good for the value of the phone but not the digital zoom feature. The benchmark scored decently but the most point is the features of the device which makes the smartphone perfect for the price. The phone comes with a 5000 mAh battery which lasted for more than 1.5 days.

The Samsung Galaxy A73 (5G) smartphone comes for the price of AED 1999. The device is available on Samsung Website. The device comes in three colours – Awesome White, Awesome Gray and Awesome Mint.
