Samsung-75inches-QN900A-Neo-QLED-8K-Smart-TV-Profile
In 1998, Samsung company began to produce flat-screen models, as well as the first line of digital tvs in the world. Throughout the early 21st century, Samsung has continued to lead the television industry, with inventions like the world’s thinnest TV in 2002 and the first double-sided LCD screen in 2006.
In 2006 Samsung launched the Bordeaux LCD TV. In 2009, the company launched the C9000 LED TV and in 2014, they launched the S9 UHD TV. Samsung launched The Serif in 2015 and in 2017, the company launched the 1st QLED TV and now in 2021, we have the Neo QLED 8K Smart TV. With the evolution of Television, the company has been giving the consumer to latest technological products for home entertainment.
As per the Samsung PR team, I got 1st opportunity to review the Samsung 75″ QN900A Neo QLED 8K Smart TV in the UAE.
Design and Specifications

The Samsung Neo QLED 8K Smart TV which I received for review is a 75” screen size television. The packaging was very heavy and big. The TV comes with the dimension of 1654.8 x 945.6 x 15.4mm without the stand. With the stand, the dimension is 1654.8 x 1016.6 x 320.5mm and VESA stands size is 400 x 400 mm and weighs 55.7kg packed with the VESA mount. The Television weighs 31.0Kgs and the VESA mount weighs 10Kgs.
Please note: Ensure the table or the area where you are going to fix the TV should be able to take the weight of the TV and also the team who comes to fix the TV should be at least 3 persons to handle the big tv and to help to mount the VESA mount on the TV.
There are three variants available in this region 65inches, 75 inches and 85 inches. It is an 8K Neo QLED display and comes with a resolution of 7,680 x 4,320px. The new QN900 series is the latest television which can be mounted on the wall or can be used with a floor-standing VESA mount.
The QN900 series takes its design cues from last year’s flagship and uses Samsung’s Infinity Screen technology, which has absolutely no bezel. As a result, the image goes right up to the edge of the screen. The sides have a perforated style shiny frame, don’t know if these are helping for cooling the panels and for the sound.
The Samsung Neo QLED 8K Smart TV can be almost flash mounted on the wall with accessories provided by Samsung. With the thin One-Connect Box which has all the inputs kept separately away from the display panel.
What is QLED technology?

A whole new display technology featuring thousands of LEDs that are much smaller than standard LED modules, Quantum Mini LEDs reveal accurate and sophisticated image detailing while maintaining precise backlight control.

The secret behind the miniature size of Quantum Mini LEDs is Samsung’s proprietary microlayer technology that mounts microlayers inside the LED itself, as opposed to conventional technologies that pack layers on top of the LED, in order to eliminate unnatural noise among the LED elements and ensure deeper blacks can be displayed without blooming.
Image Quality

The Samsung QN900A Neo QLED 8K Smart TV comes with 8K Resolution with the help of the AI-powered Neo Quantum Processor 8K. The processor uses the data generated from 16 neural networks to enhance every visual detail of your 8K content.

The Quantum HDR 64x provides incredible detail and brightness. The image reproduction is rich, accurate colour with deep contrast with crisp detail. With HDR10+ the dynamic tone mapping shifts colour and contrast scene by scene, allowing you to appreciate even the slightest nuances. Every frame or image which is around 33millions pixels produces 4 times the resolution of the 4K.
Should we invest in an 8K TV?

We are aware, there is very little 8K content available but Samsung QN900A Neo QLED 8K Smart TV comes with the 8k AI upscaling and combining deep learning algorithms to the Neo Quantum Processor 8K, the on-device deep learning algorithm analyzes images and tailor to the restoration of details of each pixel. So the TV is future-ready.

The Samsung TV comes with an anti-reflection screen which cuts glare from the surrounding bright lights and allows you to watch your TV content without reflection of your surrounding on the screen and you can watch the Samsung TV from every angle of the house.
Connection

The Samsung QN900A Neo QLED 8K Smart TV comes with a One Connect box (Y21 8K) which is a separate unit from the Panel Display of the TV. It can be mounted behind the TV VESA Mount or can be kept separate away from the panel.

I preferred the One Connect Box (Y21 8K) to use separately, so I could access all the ports for review and as the TV was kept close to the wall. There is only one input to connect to the panel from the One Connect box which provides the power, content signal (audio & visual) and more.

The One Connect box (Y21 8K) has 4 HDMI 2.1 of which HDMI 3 is the eArc output, 2 x USB ports, Ethernet LAN port, Optical port, One Connect port to the TV, TV antenna and cable connector ports. You can power, connect your hard drive storage and play your content on your TV via USB HDD 5V 1A port. The TV has Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 for connectivity. It supports Digital Broadcasting (DVB-T2CS2) and Analog Tuner
To connect with the panel, Samsung provides a special oxygen-free cable that comes with a sleek thin port that connects at the back of the TV Panel to the One Connect Box.
Advantage of One Connect Box

As the One Connect Box is a separate unit and not built-in the display panel, when there is an issue with the ports or power unit, you can just take the One Connect Box to the authorized Samsung dealer and get it repaired or replaced. This is not possible in the convention LED TV’s as the power unit and connectors are embedded in the TV Panel with the display.
Sound

The Samsung QN900A Neo QLED 8K Smart TV comes with 80 Watt RMS output with 6.2.2CH. The panel has a built-in woofer. It comes with Dolby Digital Plus which has the Dolby 5.1 Decoder. The device has object tracking sound with Samsung’s Q-Symphony and has Bluetooth audio support.
Smart Services

The Samsung TV has Tizen operating system. It has Bixby and far voice interaction. Web browser and SmartThing app support and gallery. It supports TV to Mobile – Mirroring DLNA, Multi-View up to 4 videos. It has a built-in 360 Degree video player and supports a 360-degree camera.

As the TV panel has options of 60Hz and 120Hz, so you can connect your gaming console or your gaming laptop for bigger and better viewing. For gaming, the TV supports Auto Game Mode (ALLM), Game Motion Plus, Dynamic Black EQ, Surround Sound, Super Ultra-Wide Game View, Game Bar and FreeSync Premium Pro.
Samsung SolarCell Remote (Model- TM2180E)

Samsung introduced in 2021 the 1st Solar Remote control along with the 2021 series of television. Along the Samsung QN900A Neo QLED 8K Smart TV got the new Samsung SolarCell remote. The remote control is very sleek, stylish, light and has handy features. The first looks like thin slab matte black with the minimum buttons on the top side and on the back panel has the solar panel to charge the remote.

For some reason the remote has no power, you can recharge the remote with the USB Type Cable. The remote has rechargeable batteries which are non-removable. Samsung working on sustainability, came up with this solution, the remote weighs 31grams and is made from plastic and 28% of plastic come from recycled polyethene terephthalate. The company claims that it will “reduce tons of plastic waste per year” and further its efforts to reduce its environmental impact.
How does the remote recharge?
When you are not using the remote, just keep the remote with the solar panel visible in a well-lit place in the house. The SolarCell Remote charge can last more than 7 times compared to the earlier battery-operated Samsung remote.
THE REVIEW

I have received the Samsung QN900A Neo QLED 8K Smart TV and the Samsung HW-Q950A 11.1.4ch Soundbar for review. The team came and connected the brand new smart TV and soundbar at my house.

The Samsung technician was well versed with the features of the TV and soundbar. The demo lasted almost an hour and showed all details from connecting the TV to the internet to the soundbar.

When you switch on the power, the setup of the TV takes a longer time. After the Samsung logo appears, then you choose the language in the option. Connect the TV with an Ethernet cable or via Wi-Fi to your network. Then later you have to choose the Smart Hub Terms & Conditions, Privacy Policy. Create a new account or log on to your Samsung account. Select your TV service provider and the next step is switching on the Intelligent mode which has a preset with enhanced display and audio. Then you are ready to start using your TV.

The TV display screen shows the TV channels, Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube, Apple TV, Shahid TV and the internet. You can also personalize your channels and applications on the bottom screen, as per your requirement.
The display was very clear, crisp and vibrant. For the test, the was used for almost a month. It used to view Full HD TV Channels, 4K Videos from YouTube, 8K images, 4K Bluray movies.

To check the quality of the display, I purposely viewed it at a close range of 5 feet, there was no strange on the eyes. There are different view modes, from intelligent mode, enhanced mode, Eco Mode and my favourite mode was the Film mode. In the mode, you get the same colour display as the director of the movie wants us to see. The other picture modes looked are good but not to my choice. You can change from 60Hz to 120Hz for gaming.

For the Blu-ray movie, I was able to manual change to HDR+ for better colour reproduction on the TV. There was a minor issue while watching a particular scene in the movie Star Wars. Whenever there was a Galaxy of stars scene, the distance stars/ planets looked brighter which shouldn’t happen as these stars/ planets are supposed to be far away. This was maybe to the AI contrast was brightening up the small white dots (stars/planet) to make it more visible on the screen. The galaxy dark background was pitch dark black as should be as per the film.

Due to the bezel-less infinity edge display, the images and movies are seen till the edge of the screen.

As for the sound of the TV, the audio performance was good with quite a good bass, mids and trebles. You can choose to highlight the mid-level frequency for better clearer vocals. On a higher level of the volume, there was a vibration and distortion sound as if the TV speakers can’t handle the low bass.
For the best entertainment was using the Samsung HW-Q950A 11.1.4ch soundbar with the TV.

With the help of Symonphy Q, the Samsung QN900A Neo QLED 8K Smart TV connects wirelessly with the Soundbar. You get various audio to connect options – TV Speaker, TV Speaker + Soundbar, Soundbar or Optical connect.

The Samsung SolarCell remote is a sleek, thin, stylish slab design with a matte black finish remote with a solar panel on the back. The remote control which I received was the Middle East version as it had a dedicated OOT platform NETFLIX, PRIME VIDEO and SHAHID buttons on the remote control. The review unit came with the Apps. With the remote, you could switch from TV tuner channels to the OTT platform Apps at ease.
The Samsung Solarcell is a universal remote and works with the Samsung HW-Q950A 11.1.4ch Soundbar. I hardly used the soundbar remote except to switch on or increase the subwoofer volume as it had a dedicated button on the soundbar remote.
Conclusion

The Samsung QN900A Neo QLED 8K Smart TV is a future-ready television unit. As you are aware 8K content is not readily available in the market. The TV is already having an 8K Display and can upgrade 4K images and videos to 8K with the 8K AI upscaling and combining deep learning algorithms to the Neo Quantum Processor 8K. It is a premium product, great features and the best part is the infinity display. You can fix it on the wall which almost flushes the wall, as all the connection and wiring is a separate One Connect box that connects to the display panel via a flat thin connector.
With new Mini Quantum LED technology, the Samsung TV provides a better, brighter, sharper image and even viewing the 75 inches TV from 3 feet didn’t feel any uneasiness or any images lines or dots which you may see in the conventional LED TVs. The Samsung HW-Q950A 11.1.4ch Soundbar was amazing and complimented the size of the TV.
See my review on the Samsung HW-Q950A 11.1.4ch Soundbar.
Personal Suggestion – If you are buying Samsung QN900A Neo QLED 8K Smart TV, make sure you add the Samsung HW-Q950A 11.1.4ch Soundbar to your budget and you will not regret it, except you already have an additional expensive audio system.
Final Verdict – If you have money and you like big size TV, this is the TV, you should consider in your list of shopping.
