Huawei MatePad Pro 12.6” Tablet
Huawei MatePad Pro 12.6” tablet comes with ABS plastic matt finish back with matt finish frame around the edges.
While holding the tablet horizontally – On the top side left corner of the tablet has the power with little red colour indication. On the top left, it has the volume rocker. On the centre-right side, you have the UBS Type C port for charging and can be used for wired data transfer. On the bottom left-hand, you have the SIM Card tray.

There are dual speaker grills on the left and right-hand sides. There 3 microphones on the top side and one on the bottom beside the SIM Card Tray.
Once you switch on the tablet, the Huawei logo appears followed by the HarmonyOS logo. This is 1st product I am reviewing which has Harmony OS for the operating systems. The setup is familiar just like the Android OS. Just log on to the Wi-Fi and follow the setup which includes petal search which is Huawei’s own search app.
Display Test
Entertainment

For the test of the display, I used numerous 4K videos from the YouTube channel. The Quad HD OLED panel display is brilliant, the range of the colour reproduction was great and even watching continuously 3-4 hours there was no eye fatigue or irritation. The test was down at 50% of brightness and at 100% brightness too. The display size of 12.6” was good enough for a personal viewing experience. Even watching a movie was a great experience.
The Tablet comes with a 60Hz refresh rate, wish it was 120Hz but as for general usage for mails, surfing and entertainment don’t make a major difference. The display can produce 16.7 million colours with a DCI-P3 wide colour gamut. The display is bright, vibrant, glossy – it really is ideal for creative tasks like photo editing or sketching. The touch screen display is ultra-responsive and accurately picking up finger touches.
Audio Test
But of course, without proper audio, there would not be fun to watch any video content on the tablet. The tablet comes with Harmon Kardon 8 speakers which are placed on the left-hand side and right-hand side 4 each and you can identify with 2 sets of speakers on each side when you are holding the tablet horizontally.

On stereo testing, I have used series of Audio files and listened horizontally and also vertically. While holding the tablet horizontally, the left and right audio channel difference could be felt up to a distance of 3 feet. When you are holding the tablet vertically, the audio channel difference is reduced up to 1 foot as the speaker are now position as top and bottom but instead of playing mono, you still get the stereo effect. Basically, holding the tablet horizontally, the distance of the left and right audio channels increases and you get a better stereo effect.
As for the sound quality, there was no audio distortion at full volume. The mids (vocal) and highs (trebles) were crystal clear. The bass was good but lacked the rumble or the roundness in the bass. But of course, you can ask for the full range sound in the slim, sleek tablet. Or otherwise, the tablet was the perfect entertainment tool for me. Even at the distance of 15 feet from the tablet, the sound quality was great and clear.
Via Petal Search, I was able to download the Spotify apk file and install it. With my login, I was able to listen to my favourite music from English Classical, Pop, Rock, Alternative, Hindi old and new and other relaxation music.
Performance

The tablet comes with the latest Kirin 9000E chipset. The chip, a close relative of the proven Kirin 9000 from the Mate 40 Pro. The Operating System is the new Harmony OS2. The interface is fast and smooth; the page response was quite quick. There are certain features like the expansion of the folder where you click on the folder and the folder expands showing more apps and if you click further on a certain app, the app becomes bigger on the display with the other apps on scroll. The app bar along the bottom gives quick access to your favourite.
Simple Function on the screen

The apps and widgets are organised neatly into folders. When you want to close an application, just swipe from down and the app closes. If you are on a website and want to go back to an earlier page, swipe from the right edge of the screen toward the left and on sweeping from the left edge of the screen, you can go forward to the next page.
The control centre is where you can switch on the Eye Comfort mode. To adjust the brightness of the screen or basic details like Wi-Fi connectivity or take a screenshot, amongst other things. You sweep down from the top right-hand corner of the screen and a drop-down menu with details appear. If you sweep down from the top edge of the screen, then you get a notification and the application open and you close it from there.
Huawei Smart Magnetic Keyboard Case

Smart Magnetic Keyboard Case was sent for review along with the Huawei MatePad Pro 12.6” tablet. The smart magnetic keyboard case is made especially for the tablet.
It has a magnetic back panel with 2 grooves for an upright position while working on the tablet. The smart magnetic keyboard case comes with a keyboard that instantly connects with the tablet with the smart magnetic induction technology.

Once this union is created, the next time when you open the case the keyboard will automatically connect with the tablet. Via the smart magnetic induction, the keyboard is also charged from the tablet. The case is made of PU material and the keyboard case also protects the tablet from wear and tear damages. The full-sized keyboard is designed for a comfortable typing experience. Its 1.3 mm key travel provides tactile feedback while typing.

The smart magnetic keyboard right side “Shift” button also acts as an NFC connection. Tap your smartphone with NFC on the NFC sensing area and the phone pairs with the tablet with approving the connection on the tab and vice versa on the phone.
Huawei M-Pencil 2nd Generation

We received the Huawei M- Pencil 2nd Gen for review along with the Huawei MatePad Pro 12.6” tablet. It came in a separate box with a pencil image in monochrome on the box cover.

The M-Pencil 2nd Gen is the stylus, drawing tool and much more. It comes in a rounded hexagon design. The pencil which we received is in silver colour. It has got transparent tip design with a platinum-coated nib. The box also contains additional 2 extra nibs. The body comes with an anti-fingerprint finish. Huawei says the M-Pencil has 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity and tilt sensitivity too.

The M-Pencil has a sensing area where you are generally holding the pencil. You can switch between brush and eraser simply by tapping your finger.
The Huawei M- Pencil can be magnetically charged by keep on the tablet wirelessly. On a single charge, you can have 10 hours of usage. If you have totally drained the battery in the M-pencil, you place it on the tablet for 30 seconds and you can use the pencil for 10mins.
Designing and Content writing

With Huawei MatePad Pro 12.6” tablet, M- Pencil and smart keyboard, you are functioning almost like a computer only better as this light, sleek and comfortable.
I am not a good artist but tried colouring and it was quite fun. With the 4096 levels pressure point, I was able to increase the colour density in particular areas. It was quite easy to create masking areas around the subject with an M-pencil instead of using the mouse generally which I have been using on my laptop. Its M-Pencil tip was accurate and very smooth flow.
Writing & Calculation
There is application NEBO under the stylus folder which is a handwriting OCR based app. Once you starting writing with your M-Pencil, automatically, it converts to text. Even a badly written text the OCR recognizes and convert to simple text.
The second app which I found interesting was the MyScript Calculator2 app. This application makes it interesting for the students who want an instant answer for Trigonometric calculation and more.
Conclusion

Huawei MatePad Pro 12.6” tablet is the perfect device for students, engineers, corporate executive on the move, an artist who wants their creativity to flow on digital canvas even it is good for media people who would like to write notes at a press conference or file articles at an exhibition.

The Huawei MatePad Pro 12.6” tablet with Smart Magnetic Keyboard Case and M-Pencil 2nd Generation is just like a touchscreen laptop but sleeker, light, stylish and compact to carry. With Quad HD OLED panel display, you could watch your favourite movies, videos or play games without getting worried about the battery life. The 8 stereo speakers produce great sound. The NFC and multifunction connection of devices can make your life easier and suit your Huawei ecosystem of “Super Devices”

The only issue was not having the Google Play Store installed on the tablet. Huawei’s App Gallery and Petal Search can solve a lot of such issues as I could download most of the social media apps and local apps in the UAE.

My Final verdict – “A great device with a beautiful display, excellent sound, powerful workhorse hardware with great accessories”
