Review of Realme X2 Pro Smartphone (Model RMX1931) for UAE MarketJanuary 15, 2020
Realme is a very young company and was founded in 2018 on 4th May and company shared ownership by a private conglomerate BBK Electronics which has other brands like OPPO, VIVO and One Plus.
Sky Li, who founded the company as mentioned on the website says “Realme is committed to offering high-quality smartphone devices with both strong performance and a trendy design in the broad context of e-commerce. “
Realme launched its flagship mobile in the Middle East which is Realme X2 Pro, Realme 5 Pro, and Realme C2. We were was one of the few chosen media to review the Realme X2 Pro smartphone before the launch.
I was impressed with the hardware configuration and performance of the mobile with a few negatives which you read in my review.
Body & Specification
The Realme X2 Pro has a dimension of 161 x 75.7 x 8.7 mm and weighing 199grams which includes a non-removal battery. It has a Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen and a size of 6.5 inches with a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels with screen PPI 402 and 1000nits max brightness. It has 84.9% screen-to-body ratio and resolution 20:9 ratio. The body build is Aluminum frame with the front display and the back panel is protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass 5.
It uses Android 9.0 (Pie) with the ColorOS version V6.1 as the user interface. It uses Qualcomm Snapdragon 855Plus Octa-Core chipset + GPU – Adreno 640 (700 MHz) with 12 GB RAM and a 256 GB ROM for storage.
The smartphones with the Dual Nano SIM Card Tray Slot and as for the network, it can support 2G/ 3G/ 4G LTE
It comes with the Quad cameras on the rear (64megapixel, f/1.8, 26mm (wide), 1/1.7″ + 13 MP, f/2.5, 52mm (telephoto), 1/3.4″ + 8 MP, f/2.2, 16mm (ultrawide), 1/3.2″ + 2 MP, f/2.4, 1/5″. The front Pinhole camera has Single 16 MP, f/2.0, 25mm (wide), 1/3″ which embedded into the display.
The main camera can shoot video at 2160p@30/60fps, 1080p@30/60/120fps, 720p@960fps, gyro-EIS and front camera can shoot video at 1080p@30fps, gyro-EIS. Realme X2 Pro features dual-LED dual-tone flash, panorama, and HDR.
Realme X2 Pro frame has the power button and SIM Card Tray on the right-hand side of the device and the Volume Rockers on the left-hand side of the phone. The bottom of the phone has the USB Type- C (VOOC) charging input, speaker grills, mic, and 3.5mm jack output.
The device which I have received for review is the Lunar White back panel. The most important feature in the smartphone is the camera for photography and videography.
With the 84.9% screen-to-body ratio display, the bezel of the phone almost merges with the frame of the phone. The only thing you will notice is in the top area where it houses the sleek earpiece speaker and single-lens camera in pinhole shape.
Realme X2 Pro Cameras
Front (Selfie) Camera
The front camera is a single 16 MP, f/2.0, 25mm (wide), 1/3″ and photo resolution is 3264 x 2448 at 72dpi and has a sensor for face detection and for Bokeh effect.
Some of the additional features of the front camera under photo mode, in the setting, is the gesture, so when you hold your open palm in front of the front camera, it gives you 3-sec count and clicks a selfie. You can record videos in 720p and 1080 at 30fps. You can also record Time-lapse selfie video and the low light (Nightscape mode) and panorama mode but it clicks only images. The other features include HDR and the smartphone doesn’t have a front LED light for flash but it uses the display screen full brightness as a flash or fill light in selfie mode. It has Ai scene recognition support too.
Main (Rear) Cameras
The back panel of the Realme X2 Pro houses the vertical Quad cameras with dual-LED dual-tone flash on the top center alighted of the back panel. The Quad cameras 64megapixel, f/1.8, 26mm (wide), 1/1.7″ + 13 MP, f/2.5, 52mm (telephoto), 1/3.4″ + 8 MP, f/2.2, 16mm (ultrawide), 1/3.2″ + 2 MP, f/2.4, 1/5″. It supports autofocus (laser focus, phase focus, contrast focus), supports EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization). The rectangle shape panel is little protruding from the back panel, so it better to use the translucent phone casing to protect the cameras.
The camera general setting can click images in 4608px X 3456px in 72dpi. But you can click under the Ultra 64MP mode you get 9280px X 6944px at 72dpi. In the video mode, camera clicks 2160p@30/60fps, 1080p@30/60/120fps, 720p@960fps.
In the photography and video mode, you can click at a wide-angle, 1x, 2x and 5x zoom and on further zooming digitally up to 20x zoom. The quality of the image at 20x Zoom is not sharp. The camera has HDR, Ultra Steady option, macro lens option, chrome boost, portrait mode, and different 10 color scene options. You can record Time-lapse selfie, and under the video, it shows the low light (Nightscape mode) and panorama mode but it is clicks images. It also has the expert mode where you can do manual adjustment of exposure value (EV), white balance (WB), Auto Focus (AF) and Exposure (ISO).
Under the expert mode, you have the option to use all the cameras, wide-angle/macro lens, standard lens, and telescopic lens. In the video mode, you have the direct option of setting the bokeh effect, so as per your choice you can set the aperture and blurring of the background. There is a direct option for portrait mode under the video which detects the face and you can change and set the bokeh of the video.
(Please note: Bokeh mode has to be used sensibly as it may cause out of focus of the video)
The front and main cameras can click images in 4:3, 1:1, full-screen ratio. The phone can click videos with compatible format H264 and also H265 format which is available for front and rear cameras.
Under the Nightscape mode, it clicked 3 images continuously and with the software support, it enhances the image. It is faster in capturing compared to other brands. But, under very low light, it didn’t perform very well.
Operating System and Software
The operating system of the Realme X2 Pro, it has the latest Android 9.0 (Pie) with the ColorOS version V6.1 as the user interface. So, with Android 9.0, the Realme X 2 Pro has all the interesting new features of the like the AI beautification, creamy bokeh for portraits, AI recognition up to 500 scenes. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 855Plus Octa-Core chipset + GPU – Adreno 640 (700 MHz) and Android Pie also helps in better for more accurate facial brightness, contrast for selfies on the front cameras and scene-by-scene optimizations for shots taken on the rear and enhancing the photography effects. The Realme X2 Pro smartphone with the help of AI face recognition for photography and in the video and uses the EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization) to provide a stabilized video.
The Realme X2 Pro was tested with various benchmark testing Apps. On AnTuTu Benchmark testing, the smartphone scored 469373 which ranked 6th among the competitors of smartphones. On AiTuTu benchmark testing it scored 235301. On PC Mark benchmark, it scored 12862. On 3D Mark benchmark, it scored Sling Shot Extreme open GL ES 3.1 – 5700 and Sling Shot Extreme Vulkan – 4903. On the Geek benchmark, it scored 658 on single-core and 2042 on multi-core.
While on benchmark testing the smartphone, the temperature of the body rose to 36.8 °C and CPU temperature rose to 46°C. The phone felt warm on the top side / near the cameras. But with the transparent back cover, the smartphone felt fine in the hand.
(Please note: Most of the smartphones while reviewing and testing had an average temperature of 35°C to 37°C)
Sound & Audio
One the feature which was impressive while testing the smartphone was the phone’s speakers and sound quality. Firstly, the speakers are Dolby Atmos stereo speakers, so when you are holding the smartphone horizontally, you can distinctly hear the left & right channel of sound and when you hold the phone vertically the sound comes as a single audio channel (Mono).
The trebles, mid-level was clear and bass was good for a smartphone. The volume quite loud and with the AMOLED display screen + HDR support, the average person can have a great movie watching experience. The device supports Hi-Res audio format and Dolby Atmos too.
The smartphone has Active noise cancellation with dedicated mic.
The smartphone comes with 3.5mm jack output but headphones are not included in the package.
The Realme X2 Pro was tested with various types of videos and different genres of music and it passed with flying colors.
(Please note: The smartphone was held at a distance of 1- 2 feet while testing the audio quality)
Connectivity & Battery
The smartphone also has an in-screen fingerprint sensor, face detection, pattern, pin for accessing the smartphone. You can also use to lock certain folders in the smartphone for further protection.
The Smartphone supports Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band, Wi-Fi Direct, hotspot. Bluetooth 5.0, A2DP, LE. It has NFC support and with App and headphones, you can also connect to FM Radio.
The smartphone comes with a Non-removable Li-Po 4000 mAh battery which can last more than a day with average usage.
The smartphone comes with USB Type- C (Super VOOC) charging input which can charge the phone at 50W. As mentioned by the company, a fully drained phone can be fully charged in 30mins.
Can the Realme X2 Pro can be a good gaming smartphone?
The Realme X2 Pro is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855Plus Octa-Core chipset and Android Pie with 12GB RAM, 256GB ROM and with the usage of GPU – Adreno 640 which makes the gaming experience more fluid. On the test run with games like Asphalt 9 and Call Of Duty, the phone had no issues in delivering a smooth, stable gaming experience. With Non-Removable Li-Po 4000 mAh battery, you can play longer hours to play games and view online entertainment.
Realme X2 Pro is a very good smartphone for the price, the phone is a high-end smartphone with all the best features for gaming, watching online entertainment. The built quality and color makes the phone very rich and stylish. With Quad cameras with AI support makes this smartphone one of the best in the market, as for the selfies, the single 16MP lens can make difference with the Ai function which can give a very nice creamy Bokeh effect and focus on your face. It has a quick and sharp focus system.
With 256GB ROM space, it is a good smartphone for the price and can run for the money to its competitors. Gaming is fluid with Snapdragon 855Plus Octa-Core chipset and Android Pie with 12GB RAM.
With all the AR and AI effects and functions, it is a very young, stylish and perfect companion for the teens, gamers, businessman and fashion-conscious people.
The only negative was the very low light photography under nightscape mode was not great.
Packaging of Realme X2 Pro & Price
The Realme X2 Pro comes in white rectangular packing with Snapdragon 855+ and 64MP Quad Cameras mentioned on the cover. On opening the box, you will find the box with contains the transparent back cover case and the warranty and instruction papers. Below the case box, you will find the Realme X2 Pro smartphone covered in a translucent protective cover and below the phone, you will find the compartments which contain the Super VOOC charger, the USB Type C VOOC charging cable and SIM card pin removal tool. The only thing missing is the headphones.
