Our Review

The Motorola Moto Z2 Force is beautiful slick, slim design smartphone with Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, It has Android Nougat 7.1.1 with shatter proof glass on the screen. I used for a month and it perform beautiful with no flaws. Especially the features with attaching the mod makes the Moto Z2 force smartphone stand out different from the competitors. I would recommend this smartphone for our readers.

Lenovo and Motorola  had invited the media in a special gathering to launch the Moto Z2 force, Moto Z2 Play and gave us a customise package with the Moto Z2 force smartphone with Mod 360 Camera, Moto Turbopower pack and Moto Gamepad.

Last year Lenovo Motorola launched the Moto Z force which turned everyone eyes with the shattered, shock proof glass smartphone and drop demonstration done on different kinds of floor with included marble, concrete floors too. Continuing with the same line-up Lenovo & Motorola launched the Moto Z2 force which is similar to size to the earlier predecessor Moto Z force.

I have used the Moto Z2 force smartphone and mods for almost a month before writing this review. So let start with the size, features and display and more..

Moto Z2 Force smartphone Design

With a dimension of 155.8 x 76 x 6.1 mm (6.13 x 2.99 x 0.24 in) and weighing only 143 gms it slimmer than the predecessor Moto Z force. With resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and size 5.5inchs, it has shattered proof glass. The body is all metal unibody design that’s made from 7,000-series aluminum for extra toughness and durability. he rear panel has a hairline finish which doesn’t add any texture to the device, but it is an attractive look and a big improvement over the rear panel of the original Z Force. Due to the slim body, looks like Motorola had to sacrifice on the battery capacity, earlier Moto Z force had 3500mAh battery and new Moto Z2 Force has 2730mAh battery. The edges are rounded and solid with front camera 5 MP, f/2.2, dual-LED dual-tone flash, an additional led flash compared to Moto Z Force. With a oval shape finger print sensor on the bottom of the screen, volume rocker and power button on the right hand side. Moto Z2 force comes with Dual nano SIM slots on which is places on the topside of the smartphone. The rear panel has Dual camera 12 MP (f/2.0), phase detection & laser autofocus, dual-LED dual-tone flash which little extruded from the body and has the Mod pin connectors but Motorola has provided additional rear panel to cover the back and reduce the extruding camera.

Moto Z2 Force has shatter proof glass covering with Amoled display

The Z2 Force comes with a 5.5-inch AMOLED display boasting a resolution of 2560 x 1440 that results in a pixel density of 535 ppi. The AMOLED screen displays vibrant colors, deep dark blacks, and excellent contrast. The display works wonderfully for browsing the web, playing games, and watching videos  but it does become tough to read under direct sunlight. The screen is protected with the thick shattered glass panel but as it is made of plastic, it is prone to scratches compared to other smartphones which comes with Gorilla glass but again they are not shattered proof. Best solution get a anti-scratch guard on the screen if you have the fear of scratches.

Moto Z2 force - Dual Camera with Dual LED

Moto Z2 force – Dual Camera with Dual LED

The camera of the Moto Z2 Force comes with primary dual camera 12 MP (f/2.0), phase detection & laser autofocus, dual-LED dual-tone flash which can give image resolution 4000 x 3000 pixels and front camera 5 MP, f/2.2, dual-LED dual-tone flash which can give image resolution 2592 x 1944 pixels. The primary camera can record videos 2160p@30fps, 1080p@30/60/120fps, 720p@240fps. It has got Geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, HDR, panorama but I was not impressed with the touch focus and the auto focus function. The camera also lacks optical image stabilisation as video footage isn’t very smooth and shakes and jitters can be easily noticed even from the casual walk. Dual lens has one standard RGB lens and other Monochrome Lens. Due to the monochrome lens you can click true black & white images. In the camera function, you have options like True B&W, Depth Enabled (Bokeh), Panorama. standard auto mode and professional mode for desired image setting and also HDR function. As for the video, it has slow motion function to record upto 120fps, True B/W and once you install Moto Live App, you will have the Live button option on screen. For professional, you can touch the screen and control the brightness level of video.

There is a small issue while using the camera especially while recording a video. The smartphone warms up a lot  and on long usage it heats up and could feel it on the palm.

Performance & Hardware

On AnTuTu benchmark, the Moto Z2 Force came with score of 179810 which gave 4th place ahead of Samsung Note 8. The Moto Z2 Force comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 Octa-core, chipset with 6 GB RAM and 64GB ROM. Moto Z2 Force has Android Nougat 7.1.1 OS. The Z2 Force is fluid and responsive with fast app load times, smooth scrolling, and a seamless multitasking experience. Checking emails, browsing the web, and watching videos are all handled with ease and graphic intensive gaming is also an enjoyably smooth experience. Much of the phone’s snappiness and fluidity can be attributed to a combination of the fast processor and Motorola’s close to stock experience. For consumer looking for additional space can insert micro SD card in the Dual SIM slot with support of up to 2 TB.

Motorola has protected the Moto Z2 force hardware with special a water-repellent nano coating which makes the the smartphone splash proof. As for audio is concerned, the Z2 Force only comes with a single speaker embedded in the ear piece. The fact that it’s a front facing speaker is certainly a positive and the audio quality sounds good without any distortion even at max volume. However, due to there only being one speaker the audio experience sounds just as lopsided. The Moto Z2 force does have Headphone Jack but Motorola has provide USB Type-C Headphones which is very good quality and for the consumer who would like to use their own personal 3.5mm jack wired headphones, Moto Z2 force comes along with USB Type – C to 3.5mm jack adaptor.

The fingerprint sensor features the same redesigned oval shape that better matches the design aesthetics of the Moto lineup over the previous squared shape sensor. The fingerprint sensor works well, with great accuracy and speed, and it’s fantastic that it can also be used to put the phone back to sleep. In addition to that, the fingerprint sensor can be used for all of your Android navigation needs in place of the Android soft keys, through various different gestures. This was first introduced on the G5 Plus and it’s a great way to maximize the entire screen of the Z2 Force but using one button for all navigation can take some getting used to.

The Moto Z2 Force has special gesture which you can activate it from the Moto App or from setting. Like if you dont want to pick up the call, just flip the phone on the screen side, close proximate wake up of screen, shake the smartphone for flash light to switch On or Off.

Battery of the Moto Z2 Force is  2730mAh which is honestly not great one compared to the competitors and the price. Motorola wanted to reduce the thickness of the smartphone so that when the consumer attaches the additional mod to the smartphone, it wouldn’t look and feel bulky and thick.

With a fully charged battery, the smartphone perform average. The battery last around till evening on heavy usage. But thanks to USB Type- C fast charge with 15 mins charging the battery lasted till mid night.

Moto Z2 Force + option of one of the following mods: JBL Sound boost 2 Speaker, Moto GamePad or TurboPower for AED 2,699
