The Review

When you open the package of Huawei Nova 4 smartphone, the striking feature is the beautiful rectangular 3D glass curved edged smartphone with triple cameras on the back. The package also contains transparent casing to protect the phone from damages and add more grip while using the device.

The device which I have received for review is the Crush Blue back panel but Huawei Nova 4 is also available in Black colour.

The Volume rockers and power buttons are on the right-hand side of the smartphone and SIM card tray are on the top left-hand side of the smartphone.

With the 86.3% screen-to-body ratio display, the bezel of the phone is thin and screen almost merging with the background of the scenery which you are capturing. The only thing you will notice is in the top area where it houses the sleek earpiece speaker and single lens camera in pinhole shape which Huawei calls it Punch Display The front camera Single 25 MP, f/2.0 aperture and photo resolution is 5760 x 4304. The front AI camera can recognize 8 different scenes (Blue sky, Plant, Flower, Beach, Snow, Night, Room, Stage performance)

The back panel of the Huawei Nova 4 houses the vertical triple cameras with dual-LED dual-tone flash on the top left-hand side of the back panel and the fingerprint sensor in the center which is easily accessible while holding the phone. The triple cameras (2megapixelel, F/1.8 aperture + 16 megapixels, F/2.2 aperture + 2 megapixels, F/2.4 aperture), supports autofocus (laser focus, phase focus, contrast focus), supports AIS (Huawei AI Image Stabilization). The Huawei Nova 4’s 16MP camera has 117 degrees wide angle The rectangle shape panel is little protruding from the back panel, so it better to use the translucent phone casing to protect the cameras.

Huawei Nova 4 with Android 9 (PIE)

The operating system of the Huawei Nova 4, it has the latest Android 9.0 (Pie) with the Huawei’s EMUI 9.0.1 as the user interface. So with Android 9.0, the Huawei Nova 4 has all the interesting new features of the like the AI beautification, creamy bokeh for portraits, AI recognition up to 500 scenes. Special studio lighting selfies, Night mode, 3D Emojis and many more. Kirin 970 chipset and Android Pie also helps in better for more accurate facial brightness, contrast for selfies on the front cameras and scene-by-scene optimizations for shots taken on the rear and enhancing the photography effects. The consumer can use Huawei Nova 4 smartphone with help of AI face recognition and creates separate clips for each person in the video and uses the EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization) to provide a clearer image.

The Huawei Nova 4 has Night shot function where the cameras using the software adjusting the aperture and ISO creates a stunning image in low light. Personal suggestion would be to use the stand or support to get a clear shot or a very stable hand.

Also tried the 10X Zoom on the main camera with night shot function on a mini tripod and the image was pretty good for a smartphone used in low light.

Another feature which was nice was the video ringtone for Incoming Calls, so with HUAWEI nova 4, you can set up your favourite video as the default ringtone for your contacts.

Is Huawei Nova 4 a gaming smartphone?

Huawei Nova 4 is powered by Huawei’s Kirin 970 processor with 8GB RAM and with the usage of GPU – Mali-G72 MP12 which makes the gaming experience more fluid. On the test run with games like Asphalt 9 and Traffic Rider, the phone had no issues in delivering a smooth, stable gaming experience. With Non-Removable Li-Po 3750 mAh battery, you can play longer hours to play games and view online entertainment.

While on playing games and the temperature of the smartphone increased to 38 degrees which is not bad.

So far I have not come across any heavy graphics intensive games with all the background apps working to use more than 4GB RAM. But if you look at it, the smartphone is future ready with 8GB RAM then this could be a good buy.

With a battery of 3750 mAh battery which can be charged with 3.1, Type-C 1.0 reversible connector and it has got TÜV safety-certified HUAWEI SuperCharge2 offers high-speed charging. Huawei Nova 4 has the 3.5mm headphone pin for music, so good news of the Audiophile listeners, you can use your personal headsets on the phone as it supports Hi-res audio files.  It has the speaker grill on the top and bottom which makes it a stereo effect while listening to music.  It has got Active noise cancellation with dedicated mic.

As for the network, it can support Wi-Fi: 2.4 G: 802.11b/g/n;5 G: 802.11a/n/ac, USB 2.0 High-Speed and Bluetooth BT 4.2.

Huawei Nova 4 is a very good smartphone for the price, the phone is a high-end smartphone with all the best features for gaming, watching online entertainment. The built quality and colour makes the phone very rich and stylish. With triple cameras with AI support makes this smartphone one of the best in the market, as for the selfies, the single 25MP lens can make difference with the Ai function which can give very nice creamy Bokeh effect and focus on your face. It has a quick and sharp focus system.

With 128GB ROM space, it is a good smartphone for the price and can run for the money to its competitors. Gaming is fluid with Kirin 970 chipset with 8GB RAM.

With all the AR and AI effects and function, it is a very young, stylish and perfect companion for the teens, gamers, businessman and fashion conscious people.
