Huawei MateBook 13 is perfect companion for Graphic Designer

Posted April 16, 2019 by admin in Announcements

Huawei had sent us the MateBook 13 Notebook for review and while doing the review I had my friend Revon Pereira who is Graphic Designer and has more than 10 years of experience in designing. He has worked on Branding, Advertising, Events and Photography for various brands and campaigns.

So for a day, Revon used the Huawei MateBook 13 and below is his views on the Notebook

Q1: What is first reaction when you got the Huawei MateBook 13 to use?

My first initial reaction by the looks was sleek, light, simple Notebook It felt nice and light and had a good build quality. It was thin like the new MacBook pros you get out there and fast. But when I check the configuration, it got me interested to check further for details. It comes with 8th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-8565U processor with NVIDIA® GeForce® and It has got 8GB RAM with 512GB SSD for storage. That is something which is a perfect laptop/notebook for a Graphic Designer.

Only the touchpad felt a little cheap in the build quality. The sound you get when using the touchpad to click felt like the older laptops.

Q2: What are the features you liked about the Huawei Mate Book 13?

It had a touch screen and back-light keyboard unlike any other for the price. Having only C-Charge ports on either side, the Mate Book came with C-charge adapter that has USB, HDMI and other options in it. Unlike the new MacBook Pro’s which don’t come with anything extra, you don’t have to spend on buying extra components/adapters and comes included for a good price.

Editor’s note: MateDock 2 is optional accessories which need to be bought. The MateDock 2 has 1 – USB-C, 1- USB-A 3.0, 1- VGA and 1- HDMI port. This would very handy for people on the move or need to connect for presentation or transfer of data.

Q3: As you have used the Huawei MateBook 13 for a day, how was your experience while using it for designing?

The start-up of the system was good and fast. While loading the software like CorelDRAW was quick and responsive. There was no lag and responded quickly. As a designer, sometimes I may work on a design for hours and may work at late nights. With the backlit keyboard, I can be working in a dark room without troubling others.

Q4: What is the advantage you found with additional   NVIDIA® GeForce® MX 150  Graphics card added to the system?

Fast loading of graphics files, Quick Response when using advanced features in CorelDRAW. After using it for more than 2-3 hours it doesn’t heat up or slow down unlike older laptop’s, and the battery life was quite good and long lasting for my usage. So you are likely to get 5-6 hours of high-end graphics usage without needing to connect the charger while using.

I didn’t get the chance to use it for video editing but with Graphic Card it will help to run software like DaVinci Resolve to do some editing and I am sure the rendering would be faster compared to other laptops / Notebook without the Graphic Cards.

Q4: Would you recommend MateBook 13 for Graphic Designers?

Because of the price and display card on board, It’s a good option for Graphic Designers who are looking for value for money.

Q5: Price of the Huawei Mate 13 which has  NVIDIA® GeForce® MX  is AED 4499, does it justify the price?

YES, it does. The compact size, sleek design and configuration is really worth the deal.
